Can Turntable go straight to MPC 2000 xl?

I am just converting from a Boss 16 track to an MPC. I just orderred an mpc 2000 xl and a Numark turntable with some records. Do I need any additional equiptment to record from turntable to mpc?

man, you got alot to learn... like leanrning how to use the "search" feature in this forum. anyway as far as your question goes, it depends on the turntable. most turntables provide a phono signal and won't be strong enough for the mpc or most devices using line signal. you will have to get a phono pre-amp(most DJ mixers have them built in) and the right cables (rca to split 1/4 inch, for most mixers). some newer turntables have built-in
phono pre's and pushes out line signals that can go str8 into the mpc like my vestax handytrax but most TT's you come across are phono. learn the differences in signals like anlaog: mic, phono & line(+4 vs-12) and digital: spdif, aes/ebu ,adat lightpipe, etc and you will learn how to interact other devices with your mpc. I was'nt even gonna answer this dumb-ass question but you caught me in a good mood but just think about, when do you ever see just a turntable by itself with nothing esle hooked up ?

i know a turntable doesn't just sit by itself, my question regaurded whether i need to order a mixer or not, so far my shits all in the mail

to sum up what djio said. If the turntable has the option to switch from phono to line signal then a mixer(or any phono preamp) is not neccessary.

Right, for example, I have a Numark TTX1 turntable and there is a Digital Coax output on it.

there is also a Digital in and out on the MPC1000.

connect without having a mixer present... I have not tried it yet, but the concept seems like common sense. Just check your levels before you do anything.

if you ever plan on adding more instruments/gear to your setup, you'll need a mixer. if not for your turntable then for your other gear. so a mixer will probably work its way into your setup sooner or later..
