mpc1k which midi interface

Hi, i want to know if someone's using his mpc standalone with a midi interface. And which interface. Because i need one and i don't know what to choose. unitor, amt, midex or edirol.

I use an Amt8, but it depends on what you need. If you need SMPTE for video, you might pay for the unitor or other more expensive units. If your only using the mpc, then look into a smaller box, may 2 ins & 2outs.

I assume your talking about having a midi interface that can run stand-alone as well (like a router). If not, and you don't need lots of ins & outs, just get a cheapo soundblaster/joystick interface..

Also, if you use Logic, it's not a bad idea to get the emagic products to match. Emagic removes some midi latency when you pair the unitor/amt with logic. nearly anything will work, and I've had no bad luck with any midi interface. My Amt8 is solid, and has no more or less functions than most other midi routers. I imagine the amt4 is just as good. I chose this one because it had both usb & rs232/serial, so I could use my old laptop with rs232, or newer machines with the usb. It hasn't skipped a beat.

Really the biggest thing I'd say to look for is when the machine is connected to the PC. Most of them completely surrender the router functionality, and put the PC in control...something to be aware of. So you'd need to have the PC perform router functions when in that situation.

untill now i don't use cubase or logic very much but if i have to choose it will be cubase for recording tracks. So it would be better for me to buy the midex. Do any of you know something about the edirol. I like it for its hands on knobs control.

The Amt8 is great! You can stack'um too. It works with any software sequencer including Cubase with no problem.

People complain about the Midex on the Cubase forum; go check it out.

I had problem with some midi interface. Some of them neither transmit system exclusive nor work with SoundDiver. Midiman stuff didn't work with SoundDiver and it locked-up Cubase when midi dumping.

I agree with JK and I never had one problem with Amt8. .....never! It's rock solid.

Then why all the big discussions about midex>cubase and amt8/unitor>logic and where is edirol um880 good at? And can edirol be used as a standalone interface? Thanks for your reactions.

I'm using a MOTU Fastlane USB. They are simple and cheap have 2 in 2out and I have never had a problem with any software packages.
