Well maybe not your but the statistics and posts don't lie...... Looks like 3 out of every 4 500 units produced has a defect.......

no offense to people. but i'd be more willing to say that 3 out of 4 have ground loops in their system that the mpc 500 is not good at dealing. these grounding problems probably have to do with hooking up turntables and DJ mixers that are grounded all funny to begin with, and then using RCA to quarter-inch adapters and all kinda of junk.

i have been using my 500 in 3 ways.

1) mpc 500 alone, with samples chopped and loaded via USB from my computer. the only connections to the back of the MPC are audio out, power in, and USB when transferring. no noize/buzz/hum.

2) with my synth, no inputs to the MPC, just sequencing my synth and some drum samples from the MPC. both synth and mpc output to my mixer (not dj mixer) via 1/4" cables. no hum/buzz/noize

3)mpc in my DJ rig. the sends on my crappy old numark mixer are converted from RCA to quarter and put into the 500's inputs. then the output of the 500 is sent to the same DJ mixer's 3rd channel input. i also have a tech 1200 hooked up to the dj mixer for sampling. in this case, i did get some kind of noise/buzz/hum thing coming from my system. sounded like a 60hz thing, but might not have been. i simply unplugged the sampling inputs to the MPC and it went away, if i remember correctly.

if i had plugged the outputs of the MPC 500 into another mixer instead of back into my dj mixer, there might not have been a problem.

in fact, i'm gonna experiment right now, because most of this thread seems like bullshit to me. not lies, but just not people who are experienced with pro-audio. i'm sure that is what 3 out of 4 users of the MPC 500 are gonna end up being though.

what also might help some of you is to lift the grounds from some of your devices. get a couple of those grey things. i call them ground lifters but that is not what they were designed for. the things that help you plug 3-prong plugs into 2 prong jacks. (this might only apply to those of us in the US, although a similar rig could be fashioned for UK power, although my knowledge of UK power is limited...)

It's not a buzz I get, more of a high pitched tone. I have connected the MPC500 several ways, including using it with only the headphones, and the noise was there. I've sent the unit back and they will probably test it at the shop.

well it sounds like you really DO have a problem. or did. i just figure that people will read this thread and assume that they have a bunk MPC when most likely they don't.

3 out of 4 just seems like way too many for this thing to even be on the market. i've only seen/heard 2 mpc 500s, and neither had the problem.

yeah im getting an mpc for about 550 to 650 on ebay next thurs. was just gonna cop a used 2k or 500 but the 500 sound problem has freaked me out! i def. dont wanna get one off of ebay if its gonna have the sound issue especially when they could be selling it for that issue, really hope its figured out and i can understand the grounding issue, but whos to say?

are you getting a 500? try audiolines, they can do it for 550 new (or less if you ask)

thats funny - i actually just found that audiolines site today - they're sellin open boxes for 500 even and accepting offers, i offered 425 for an open box and if they do that, its on!! im leaning more towards the 500 just for portability and pc capability. hows the 500 working for you peyote?

Your right. The unit seems to feedback when connected to other stuff.

man i had the same fears before purchasing. ended up buying a used/new one from mannchyld (wuddup homie!) and the mpc worked in perfect order.

F'N noise is there since I've got it, plugged it to my DIGI002 and checked it with my YAMAHA NS10 speakers, the noise is absolutly puting the MPC500 into another product range. From what I thought it's gonna be to the NOT STUDIO EQUIPEMENT storage where I keep my old stuff n samplers. WHY NO ONE TOLD ME THAT before I got it in US brought it to POLAND and now have to return it via DHL or something worth 250$ !? S'T D'M F'K...

COMMING OUT OF PHONES AND OUTPUTS (either on batteries/ac),
IT CAN'T BE LIKE THAT DON'T YOU ALL THINK?!
