Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

i just bought the new os for the 2500 and want to thank jj for this great product. after i was about to sell the 2500 for various reasons (including the stubborn / unflexible / unmusical... akai support) i decided to get the new version as a last try.
if anybody here is still hesitating about jj ( will it damage my machine, its not official, do the jj guys know what they are doing...) i can only say that i never spent 30 $ with so much pleasure.

jj is definately THE official os, not only for the mpc1000.

Wow...another love letter to JJ

Akai support is right here. If you couldn't get the support you need here, it wasn't your MPC 2500 or the Akai OS.

That sounded a little cynical jahrome.Do you think the latest Akai OS is up to snuff?

Great observation

Is the lastest Akai OS up to snuff? What do you mean exactly? DOes it have as many features as the unofficial JJ OS? No. Is it as stable? Yes. Equal to or more stable.

Just out of interest which OS do you use?

Don't you mean which OS am I beta testing? I am beta testing the JJ OS like most of the other MPC 2500 users in the forum.

Sorry, but what about the bugs in the Akai OS? I've lost a couple of projects due to the save bug, does this not qualify?

I don't care who makes the OS as long as I can concentrate on making music instead of wasting my time with something else- like manually extracting every single one of the chops I just created! No vertical zoom in trim mode? These are hardly extra features, but bread and butter functions.

So if somebody is happy with the results he's getting from using his MPC with JJ's OS, that's cool with me. No idea with this always has to turn into a Akai vs JJ debate.

I purchased my MPC 2500 in Sept 2005. Within 1 week, I figured out the best way to save. I have been saving the same way ever since...even using the unofficial JJ OS and the latest official Akai OS. I haven't lost a project yet. So for me, the bug is non-existant. Now I do admit there are a few here in the forum that have/had saving issues.....the same ones that for some odd reason, didn't take my advice, was well as the advice from several other forum members. If you are one of them (which I suspect, but can't verify), go check out the numerous thread on this matter and you to will never lose a project. Moving on.....

Aw....but you do care thus you are writing about/defending your choice of which OS you use. But if you have been actually using the JJ OS, you have to admit that there are more bugs than the official OS. Its not ficition. You can read all the threads in the forums about bugs, or just visit the JJ web page which lists the bugs JJ admits to.

Because you just helped turned it into one ???

This really isn't a debate if you read what I wrote, which is simply a reflection of my experiences using the MPC 2500. The unofficial JJ OS has more features and more bugs than the official OS. I bring this to light because people that are looking to spend $30 on the OS, should be able to make an informed purchase by reading through the reviews in this forum.

So is this a bug or not? I'm not talking about finding workarounds for existing bugs, I'm simply stating that the Akai OS has got bugs too!

Please re-read, if Akai or Numark or whoever will add these features in one of their future updates I'll happily use this OS instead. As I said, I couldn't care less WHO is making the MPC work the way I need it to as long as SOMEBODY does it!

No, you turned a love letter to JJ into a discussion by stating

"we're all beta-testing JJ's OS"

and I asked

"where's the difference to Akai's OS?"

So let's agree to disagree, if you're happy with Akai's OS that's cool with me!

Be specific and tell me what bug (singular?) you are talking about.

But its obvious, at least to me, that you do care. You appear to be so worked up. Do you work for JJ or benefit financially from the sale of the OS? Does it hurt your feelings when I point out the fact that with every OS release, JJ adds 2-4 new bugs that were not there before? That is fact not fiction. Don't think I am not happy with my MPC 2500. But I will tell the truth. Why hide certain facts? It keeps anyone programming the OS for the MPC 2500 on their toes.

Last time I checked, this is a forum for discussion. When you or anyone else create a thread here, you do this knowing that forum members will respond. If dude wanted to send a private communication to JJ, there are two sites for that. If you post it here, forum members will answer..JJ doesn't post here..at least not by revealing who he/she/they are.

So yes, this is now a discussion because this is a forum to discuss things. Yes, we are all unofficially beta testing the unofficial JJ OS. Why deny that? You want to know the difference between the two operating systems? You can find it here and in several threads. You want to agree to disagree? What are we agreeing and disagreeing about? I posted facts that you cannot refute.

Dude...I respect your passionate defense of the JJ OS  Maybe you too can write a love letter.

By the way....visit the JJ site if you dont want to read through all the bug reports in these forums. The JJ OS for the MPC 1000 has 21 bug fixes this past month spread out over several OS updates. The JJ OS for the MPC 25000 had about 22 bug fixes over the past 3 months. Many of them was fixed in the recent OS upgrade. You do know what that means? It means, we paid $30 for an OS that had at least 9 bugs in it.

- Save bug
- Stereo to mono bug in chop shop
- Stop/Mute

Those are the three bugs I had trouble with in the past. And it seems you too, because that's what you wrote a while ago when it came to the Stop/Mute bug:
jahrome wrote:I believe Akai will continue to miss something until they let actual MPC users beta test the OS....but wait...I guess that is what we are here for
So let's agree that we are beta testing for Akai and JJ, because both of their operating systems have got bugs.

What do you think?

Those are not all bugs. But I will agree to let you figure out which is a real/perceived bug and which is due to lack of knowledge about how the MPC 2500 functions.

My goodness. Ok, hopefully I can end all the bull with the akai vs jj debate.. Even though the jj os has bugs, most of us still like using it more than the akai os. JJ's updates are faster, has more features, and it has a game of pong with selectable sounds. No other operation system does this! Say word! :)

So that means you enjoy finding all the bugs in the OS you use for that 1000? I guess that is a great way to get in the mood and put you in the right frame of mind to knock out some bangers....
