cool edit for PC is like ProTools for a MAC

I have a PC at home. I've know for a fact ProTools is the best software yo u can use for the MAC. How good is Cool Edit for the PC?

its alright, ive used it and its a good program for sound editing. It has tracking functions scimilar to pro tools but it really lacks in many areas...I would strongly suggest if you need a program with all functions scimilar to pro tools get Emagics Logic Audio or Stienbergs Cubase.....There is more of a leaning curve for both these programs but that just means they are WAY more advanced.....if you dont need a program with that many functions then cool edit will probably suit your needs just fine...its a good program to learn. if your're running Win98 or WinME, ProTools LE is available for FREE. Just download from the protools website. It doesn't run so well in compatability mode under XP though.

Cool Edit is the Sh^t for audio editing. Best/Most effects for the least amount of money. It does very well at taking snaps & pops out of vinyl recordings, or hiss off old/cheap gear. But, it doesn't do much for MIDI yet. So I'd go for Sonar or Cubase if you need MIDI tracking. Logic is NO LONGER supported for windows, since Apple bought Emagic last year.

I am sure many people would dispute that "fact" that pro tools is the best software for Macs. You should find a software platform that you like and works best for what you are doing. I use pro tools on a mac and a pc. It works great on both. It is the same program on both, which is important to me. Find out what you want to do, then start reading reviews of different software. Cool Edit Pro is now called Adobe Audition, and it's bloody expensive, but I like it for all pure Audio work - no real MIDI sequencer-type facilities.
Note that there's no easy way to sync it up with a MPC1000. Audition uses MIDI Time Code (MTC) exclusively, while the MPC uses MIDI Clock = not compatible. (Discussed in other threads.)
