hey, the production forum has a tips n tricks thread but i think we need one specific to the os and machine we're working on.

it never stops amazing me what is possible from very simple uses of the mpc. there have been an explosion of things we can do on the mpc with the new os. i've posted a couple, and i'll post a couple more, but i want to hear some stuff i probably don't know already.

so post them!

you can use the resonnant filter as sinusoide (for your basslines, like sub (sinusoide)just change the frequencies when the res is on maximum.
with grid edit it's easier to write notes and intervals.
you can make randomized basslines with lfo setting...

you can automate effects change...not really a tip but nice feature

>>>prepare many different effects settings like effect1 (chorus+delay), effect2 (phaser+pan)etc...(mode+pad12)
(you'll can backup those in all seqs and songs)
>>>then go to step edit
>>>view effect
>>>write your effects sequencing (insert)

enjoy!

that went over my head. i'll try it next time. anything effect in particular you find nice to use for that kind of stuff?

-short delay(s) (to make nice drills)
-eq (for the snare rolls)
-long reverb (it will make nice glitches)
-autopan are crazy when they really quick
-it's interesting to have more fx setup
-and you switch between them really quickly in your sequence
(e;g : warp label like...)

it could be nice to have effects in grid edit don't you think? :D

another tip :

it's nice to make a sequence with 16 steps and 16 different sound (or 32 steps with 32 diferents sound in a bar playing mono synth like (this is one of the reasons why why i would love to have more programs(99 would be perfect))

mkl, what type of music do you produce? link me to something.

that's a very clever trick.

do you see it cause any performance slowdowns? ie sequence looping not as smoothly, etc

why would you? it's like the first timers with their note repeated-16th hi-hat genius, just with a different sound per 16th.

Yes... and is there any way you can influence those effects with the Q-Link sliders? And are those effects for the whole track?

For melodics parts: Instead of setting note numbers to pads using autochromatic, you can assign the pads just to notes that are in a scale that you're using. Since a scale will usually have 7 notes you can either enter more than two octaves of notes or set up the pads creatively - different "fingerings" for example (guitarists will know what I mean ;)

With the simult pad you can set up a single pad to play an interval or a chord...

yeah fx changes in step edit's really good, can get a bit clicky, but theres a few good ones here n there, once they get wet!

When you use pentatonc scales you get even more octaves.

Sample a pitch bend with what ever you have that can pitch bend with (synth, oscilator, guitair, slide whistle your voice), set qLink to sample start and play.

Mess with your envelopes, note repeat, effect settings, velocity to filter etc.. and swirl away at that sample until it's done.

Slow bends work good, and i like to start on the note for a second or 2 and end on a fifth or octave for a second or two so you can atleast hit 2 notes that sound right together.

copy and reverse the sample, layer it or simult pad with the non reversed sample for some slidey kookiness.

you can also do this with proper notes (a recorded scale of an instrument or synth), if you're too lazy chop the notes onto pads, or just want a different way to play them.
