500 live

Im thinking about purchacing a 500 but Ive got a few questions that I havent seen answered on here.
1. Now that people have had these for awhile, how are the pads holding up?
2. Does anybody here use it for live performace?
If so hows it working out?
Im an ex 2000xl user and I NEED these pads and sequencer again, money is definatly an issue so Im thinkin about the 500, Ive pretty much decided against a used 1000 mainly because of the pads problem.
Used 2000xl? naw, I like the data storage of the newer ones, plus I mainly want the pads and sequencer. What do you think.
Any replys would be greatly appreciated

im a former 2kxl user myself, and am very happy with my purchase of the 500, pads holdin up great, and everything works fine for me...although one day ill have this and wanna get my hand on a 3000 but thas more off into the sunset.

Im sure Ill end up with this one, I really want
the 1000 because of the obvious perks but I
cant justify spending that much money on something
I know Ill have to fix in the near future.

It sounds like the 500 is right up your alley. I've had It since the first week or two that it release and I haven't had a problem with anything except the OS which needs an update.

I saw something on an earlier post about a possible jj os for this one.
Is there anything further on that?

No JJ has not said anything. Akai should be doing something soon I'd imagine, but who knows.

The problem you speak of,
is that the saving issue some have had?

When I say problem with the OS I mean little things like the tracks not saying unused when there is no data on them or when your loading up samples you shouldn't have to scroll from the start of the list every time you load, the 500 should remember where you are at in the list prior to loading. It's just little things like this that I refer to as "problems". I have never had a problem loading or saving my project data.

I have the 500, i think it is really great for live performances ... the one thing about the pads is that, it has its own feel. it doesnt feel like the 1000 or the 2000, it has got its own touch ... not bad just different. Once you break them pad in though, it will be really nice.

what do you mean with "break in"? just that they get softer after much use?

I agree Gonzalez, the pads are totally unique in feel when compared to other mpc's.

Ohh yeah, you need to beat the heck out of it. Moreso then any other MPC the 500 comes tight. When I first got it, I was punching it with my knuckles. Them things were meant to get beat on ... Once you get them nice and loose ... its like water.
