youre completely mistaken SON--and i do mean that as a condescension... YOU ARE sounding like an ass to be honest. nobody told me, I FUNKING READ THE DAMN MANUAL! you stupid people who wont help yourselves always want something free. the explanation given was correct, but youre too stupid to see it. it wasnt a smart ass reply, it was THE BASICS that you need to understand before you go on to loftier issues.

give us ONE GOOD REASON why we should just sit here and hand out free lunches.

Mono means "one"
Poly means "more than one / many"

Therefore, MONO will only play one sound at a time and POLY will play many. It's as simple as that.

what is so rude about that? plenty of people are rude on these boards but this is not one of those times.

but its all good because sirvaant accepted the explanation, so why not leave it alone.

i like the way he's used the word 'nato' in his name, almost like he's trying to say he's here to quell disagreements and enforce peace. that one worked then.

OK so you found out what mono and poly means in the manual, but the sounds cutting out for no reason is an actual bug and that is not in the manual so how else was he supposed to find out..

I wasn't saying he was being rude, just that his explanation was irrelevant to the original question and im pretty sure didnt help him understand WHY the bug happened, which is WHY Sirvaant thought he was being a dick.

One good reason to help people for free is so you get helped back for free, Alien Brain your a moron and you already start gunnin me down when you have got your argument messed up I know he explained what he was explainin correct, but he didnt explain the bug and thats what I was saying you ass. Its not free lunch as you put it, its a few words to put him in the right direction... you waste your time cussing people all the time why not put your time towards something positive for once, ass.

Anyway I don't give a shit about being popular on an online forum with a bunch of people I don't even know so go and swivel you prick ... I hope you get nowhere and no one helps you for free when you really need it.

PEACE

no its not.

new folder freeze= bug
amp envelope glitch = bug
DIRECTORY ERROR = bug

polyphony mismanagement = user error.

unless you're using a pre-1.07 os, in which case note drops may be a bug. but i haven't heard of anyone using anything earlier than 1.07 in a long time, and if they are, i'd still classify it under user error for never getting off the short bus even when it stopped by your house.

Correct me if i'm wrong I may be overlooking something but if every pad is on polyphony then surely every sound should play no matter how many pads are played at once... I'm sure this must be some sort of bug for one poly sound to cut out another - i'm going to have to try and split everything to different tracks in future and see what happens

it sounds like you're still a little confused as to what polyphony means in reference to the mpc.

the mpc has 32 voices. say a pad is set with 1 stereo sample. that's 2 voices taken when that is played. if that pad is set to poly, if you tap it again and again, the pad will take up 2, 4, 6, 8 voices - as many as it does overlap. you could run out of polyphony by tapping 1 pad depending on the sample/speed of tapping.

when a sample is set to monophonic, it cuts itself off, so the above pad in monophonic would be like 2, 2, 2, 2, 2 no matter how many times you hit it.

and they will - but they'll cut off the first sound having been played. that's why notes drop. that's why if you're noticing note dropping and you mute the track with the most data (usually the drum track) you'll notice that the notes no longer drop.

servant's problem was that his hats were in stereo AND they were polyphonic, which was eating up his polyphony.

2, 4, 6, even 8 voices all being taken up by hats. not to mention everything else. this is how even a very simple beat can devour polyphony. however, using it right gives you PLENTY of room, as i told servant on the telephone.

if you're managing your polyphony right, you start reaching 32 voices only when you've created an especially busy/dramatic part of your song, in which case you could either resample to save yourself some polyphony or set some notes to monophonic

remember as a general rule that notes should be monophonic UNLESS they need to overlap. likewise they should be mono UNLESS they'd benefit from being stereo.

That cleared a hell of a lot up for me thanks for that man your a geeza n a half. I didn't realize (though now i know, it makes perfect sense) that there was a limit to the number of voices, to be honest I overlooked that specification when choosing my mpc as I never got a grip of what this actually meant , I just figured with enough ram I should be ok but now i realise obviously ram doesn't affect this it's the mpc itself that is limited. Thanks again for your quick response, wish they cuda made the 1000 with 64 voices

they did - i think the 4000 has 64 voices.
but really, you won't run out of voices if you use em right. it happens pretty rarely to me.

is the voice limitation a Hardware limitation or an OS limitation?

not sure. i'd guess software though.

nah, hardware. for the particular audio engine that the 1k is running, adding more voices would be too much for the processor. if you think of, say, reason on the pc, if you keep adding notes and adding notes, eventually you'll make the sound glitch. this is the limit of your current hardware. with the mpc, they could not allow any audio glitches, so they limit the polyphony to 32 to ensure they have enough processing headroom for extras, like the effects, sequencing etc.

hope this helps.
