Dear mr. mwalker.

You're a software fan. So what? I like steaks, you don't see me posting that on the mpc forum do you?
I'm sure you're a fine musician, not to mention a great producer. You seem to know a thing or two about software too, you're the midi-king of nyc and you're name is on the back of some cd.. So why not take all this expertise to another tread and help some people out with the problems that they might be having.

Oh and you don't have to tell me i don't know **** about making music too, i already know.

"do you have any credits on any cd? how many jungles have you played on? what is the largest crowd has you perform for? on the last cd i played on there was marcus miller on bass, bernard wright on keys, andy martinez on guitar. who is the nicest performer you have perform with? are you in the union? theory questions, how many sharps in a c sharp scale (7 sharps). trick question, what is the second degree in a b sharp scale (b sharp scale is really a c scale and the second degree is d)? i graduated from berklee in 1985. do you have a degree in music (you do not have to have a degree in music to be a producer but it is a piece of paper that says that i do know some things about music)? what is the most money you made in a year playing music? my job is music. so, just because you have a mpc does not make you a producer. mpc are sold everyday therefore a new producer is born everyday. so where are you in the picture? who has called you to put down some tracks? i am with marcus about 2 to 3 times a month. oh yea, what was the nicest studio in recorded in? "

1st point:

If you graduated in 1985 that makes you about 40 years old. Why are you on the internet bragging to 18-25 year olds about how great you are?

2nd point:

You're a session player, we get it. Although I doubt you're in as much demand as Marcus Miller. Why? Because he's probably way cooler than you are.

3rd point:

Somehow I picture you as a very, very tense person. Relax, your neck veins will thank you.

4rth point:

And don't underestimate this one: No one cares, buddy! I've done a few things (yes, money making things) in music but if I were sitting here bragging about them and BERATING people instead of HELPING people then I'd be a pretty immature individual. And I'm probably 15 years younger than you are!

5th point:

Let me tell you a little story. When I was in big band in college, the music director was this jerk who refused to listen to anything but jazz and sometimes funk (but not really). His attitude was that until you have thoroughly mastered everything that has already been discovered on an instrument, you have NO RIGHT to be creative. That's right, he actually said this. Because of this, his nickname was "The Jazz Nazi." Don't be like that guy, please. He was not very happy. And I want you to be happy.

stick to your hardware, son, because you are being lapped in a 100 yard dash. i get the impression that if you lived in the horse and buggy era and car was just invented you would stick with the horse and buggy because you would be scared of the technology. that's cool. ok, i am off to work now, recording a soap comercial. what are you doing today? oh yea, beat my pads in my bedroom. i wonder what you beat when you are finished beating you pads.

mwalker wrote:i agree with you in some points. i do own a mpc and use it all the times. with an software setup an individual can go from idea to cd with one machine. period. there are allot of talented people out there and we all are looking for an egde and if you go to any top of the line studio you will see a mpc (maybe 2) but most studio run pro-tool, cubase, reason, logic and so on with software effects. the mpc alone will not give you that studio power because you need mixer, effect, recording device, cd burning. with the software setup an individual is closer to a real studio enviroment than spending $1000s and $1000s of dollar for hardware. in some cases hardware is better but i would rather laid down a track with my real drumset.
is hardware better than playing a real instrument? is hardware the next step from playing a real instrument? so, software is the next step in the music world. go to any top of line studio and you will see for yourself.

rofl dude just shut up, I told you to put up or shut up (post some original music you did all byyourself) then you give me the run around, just FYI I've played piano for a few years, so I know my theory quite well, so I choose not to entertain your questions for the sheer fact that your trying to railroad you posting your music up

You know damn well no one is driving or taking a plane to where your at so your so quick to say Yaaah come check me out blah blah blah, but when its time to post, your whole game switches up....

1) You don't need a degree in music to make music (Hell you don't even need theory to be good at music) (blah blah yes it helps reason I have it)

2) blah blah blah you grad in 1985 that means your a dinosaur that is behind in times, and your prob garbage, anyone can make up some shit so I gradded from the Puff Daddy's House of Looping in 1990, who gives a shit, you can know all the shit in the world and still be garbage, so lets hear

3) you sure do like to put out alot of shit without saying anything anyone can confirm, ok so you beat drums for someone hitting record? that makes you special? lol, name the cd you are on and Ill go buy it

4) please with the hardware shit,(not including the additonal software and plugins) I own 15k worth of shit including my pc with all the programs your naming, so that shit aint shaking considering I have spent quite a big deal with all those programs and still went out and brought a mpc 4k, I also use a DIGI 002m for PT, not cubase.... like yourself
I can go from start to finish on my hardware setup, so your not saying shit new

5)lol @ you naming PT,Cubase,Reason,Logic with software efx, o you mean home studios right? cause you need to be slapped if you mean pro studios, considering the amount of MPCs in studios greatly outnumber Reason, Cubase isnt that popular in the US, PT is dominate with Logic right behind it, and alot of people use alot of outboard hardware (arent you suppose to be a studio musician? your suppose to know this....., looks like I've been to alot more studios than a "Studio Musician"

6) lol @ MPC isnt going to give you real studio power, your a moron, thanks for stating the obvious, which is why people either have PT or a hard-disk recorder right next to their MPC, no one "Software" program is going to give you "Studio power" thats why you have plugins and other programs in use with your "One Software program", just like a mpc

7) ok at the 1000s and 1000s shit, we get it your a cheap ass, considering you can get a hell of a setup for a few

8) lol @ next step shit, ya with Pro Tools, it was a craze, all the rest of these programs besides Logic, and all the home studio cubase users, there really isnt much to shake a stick at, but if you wanna feel like your on the leading edge of technology cause all those years of beating your drums and you still cant put a song togethor, its ok :)

You see why I address you the way I do? cause of the stupid shit you say, you say you been in this game all these years, named all those software programs, and then your friend told you thats 2 much software? all you need is reason and live3? dude get the **** outta here, that set off newbie alarm right there

So skip all the bullshit, and post up your original music, we dont give a shit bout all the talk, I wanna see the walk, for some reason I knew you wouldnt post it the first time, and stop with asking me a bunch of useless questions, Im not the one on trial here, you are, It's like them asking Michael Jackson to pull down his pants so they can collect evidence, and him saying no you pull down your pants (thats the equalivent of what your doing)

Post music, or you don't have shit to say to me old man

mwalker wrote:first off, my son is 15 and he is in school and i think you are from the midwest and it is 11:00 am in the east that means that it is 10:00 in the midwest, why arent you in school. if you would go you would learn that is is american and if a software guy (that owns about $10,000 in hardware) can come to a hardware forum and voice his opinion. if you do not like it do not read it. now, do you think if you could answer those theory questions you would be a better producer, i think so. just say you are in the studio and you want to add live guitars to your session how do you tell the guitarist what you want. time is money. it is like being in japan and cant speak japanise. it is a lot more to making music (rap, hiphop, jazz, funk, soul) than loading up some samples and beating a few pads. you are only 17 just remember mwalker when you get about 20. the more you know the better your music will be. believe that. finally, you have to get accepted to berklee. a person could take lessons (drums, pianio etc) for years and will got take accept to berklee. you must be a player. i was a all state drummer in ny for 3 year straight. you are only 17 and i do not expect you to understand but it music is your heart you will understand sooner than later. peace my boy.

Okay, let me crack my fingers, cuz i got a few words to type....

1st) I honestly and obviously don't care how old your son is... I just hope he doesn't grow up being a azzhole like his father... how bout that... and as i stated before, i'm a early graduate, and yeah i'm 17, so before you try to be mister "I know my Geography and time zones, and MistaMike, i'm gonna try to hoe you and prove that you're some dumbazz who is skipping school"... Get cha shyt right homeboy...

2nd) I agree, theory and musical knowledge is a big help, but definently not a necessity... Hell i've been playin tha piano for 12 years just like you've been playin drums since the caveman passed you a stick and a can back in your day.... But your "drumming credibility" has nothing to do with how well you drop tracks, because i guarentee there are plenty producers out there who don't play the drums, that would take ur computer, kick the monitor in, spit in ur face, and drop a beat that would put yours to shame... and on top of that a lot of those producers are probably members of this site who faithfully use a MPC...

3rd) "finally, you have to get accepted to berklee" Man shut that shyt up.... I wouldn't give a damn if u were the f*kin dean of the school... Just because you graduate from Berklee doesn't mean that you're a dog azz producer... Half the producers in the game didn't step foot in a college and could buy you and the whole berklee school, if you wanna be all "I make money in this game" And your little "I was a all state drummer in Nyc" okay nuff said.... Ur a drummer, okay, beat ur drums, have fun, use ur little software, got damn man, get a life....

and Finally, i'm tired..... so i'll end it like this...."Peace my boy"... Aight bytch.... you ain't ma daddy, and u aint ma boy, so fvck off....

I'm not trying to argue, but this is a really gay thread! So what if someone likes fruity pebbles and someone else likes rice crispies....move on! It's all opinion and preference!

By elmacaco Fri Mar 26, 2004 6:28 am
I'm pretty sure everybody here uses a computer with their MPC except for a very small group (of 1?) Just like you.

You are arguing nonsense.

Congrats on your career. now play nice.

btw. I'm in NYC, and I'll take free lessons at your studio. I know my shyt, but I'm always open to learn something. You just might learn that from me.

i don't use a computer w/ my mpc...for just making music a computer is unwanted..for recording i might like it but i think hardware would be more intuitive anyway knobs, faders, tactile control is too important for me.

ok children, tell me where to post my songs. a matter of fact tell me what type of beat you want. i will do one total on mpc and one using my software. i will also add a jazz cut. just tell me where to post. iceberg-slim it seem you talk alot of shit too, let put a wager on a battle. we will let the forum member choose even though they do not like me. how about $1000.
how about it put your money where your mouth is. so, set up exactly what you want to do. on my jazz cut i will play the keys, guitar and program the rest. how about wager your mpc4000? because i want this ass kicking to hurt. just setup the parameters for the battle. by the way do you know any drummer personally, we love to battle. the old pros call it cutting. and for the rest of you guys i have nothing against you, i just think this asshold iceberg-slim needs to be taught a lesson and all of you can witness this ass kicking. i do not have mpc4000 but i will wager what it is worth $2500 or what ever. i want you ICEBERG-SLIM this old ass mutha fu@ker wants you b!tch. how about it, if you are not talking money or gear just keep talking. aaright cuz. p&nk b!tch. the names are not personal i just want you to lose your mpc.
