OK I've managed to swap out the floppy drive from my 3KLE and replace it with a microtech pcd-25 that I had previously been using in a external case. Thanks for your help Teletran1.

I seem to be having trouble with the modified power supply though. Sometimes the 3K does not recognize the drive and then I will fidget with the wires a little and the 3K then recognizes the drive. I think that the connection between the power cables must be faulty.
Sometimes I will turn on the 3K and it will recognize the internal drive and others it won't recognize the drive.

Is it possible to remove the internal floppy power supply so that I can solder the power supply for the new internal card reader to the power supply of the old internal floppy? I've tried to gently pull and fidget on the little white piece of plastic that sits on the board but it doesn't seem to want to budge.

Any thoughts?

Yeah I was trying to disconnect that same wire but I figured I'd brake it before it would come loose.

Just make sure that all of the wires are making the correct contact. It should work flawlessly.

Are you using shrink tubing?

i didn't use heat shrink because I don't have a heat gun. I twisted the wires together and then used electrical tape to insulate them.

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the internal floppy power supply from the board inside of the 3K?

If it is one of those white push on connectors, then they usually can be pulled off with a little force.

But, you really should be soldering the joined wires, rather than just twisting them together.

I actually live a minute away from Forat so I took it in for him to look at. He doesn't think that the issue is with the power supply. He is going to check it out and get back. He is the coolest dude. He replaced a scratchy volume potentiometer on a SP1200 for me about a month or two ago and did a great job, so I know it's in good hands.

It is a little hard to see in that pic, and I'm not near my MPC3000 at the moment, but I would think that it can be removed.

Anybody know if those synchrotech pcd-47b(I think that's the model number) card readers will work. They're internal and I used to install them all the time on 2kxl's.

I am hoping to get some time this weekend to figure this little gremlin out.

The PCD-47 firmware upgrade utility is a bit naf.

You will have to fiddle around with:

a) jumpers on the PCD-47B circuit board.
b) SCSI port selection settings in the firmware upgrade utility.
c) SCSI ID per slot settings ( checkboxes ) in the firmware upgrade utility.

...and of course, your MPC3000 will need to be fitted with Vailixi in order to slow down the SCSI transfer mode to a level that can be handled by these devices.

Why is slot # 1 bigger than slot # 2 on the Microtech Card Reader?

What type of PCMIA card are you usin ? If you could, please list the manufacturer and the size of the card in megabytes..
