Off topic, New headphones less sound?

Hey Guys,
I know this is off topic but I purchased a new pair of headphones (AKG240) and I noticed that they are not as loud as my cheaper pair of headphones when plugged directly into the MPC4000. They don't give me as much bass either. Do these headphones need to be used with an amp or something to get proper sound? They were pretty expensive and I'm just wondering if I'm not using them right or if there broke.

The headphone drivers are of a higher impedence (ohm) and therefore require more power to drive them. What you want is a lower impedence headphone.
