Hmm. I liked some of those beats. If you think you're better, why not let us hear some of your beats?

Yes..Definitely the Gayest thread on MPC Forums! What are you all fighting about?

We got one dude that's going through a mid-life crisis trying to get down with the youngns, and obviously started this thread and used it as a vehicle to feel better about himself.

Dude, buy a Ferarri and mack some dumb young slut, and get your self-esteem, youth, and vigor that way. At 40, you should not be trying to become a Hip Hop beatsmith!

Also, An educated man like that who cannot spell, has poor sentence structure, and resorts to childish games is kinda fishy to me. This is probably a 17 year old kid with a good imagination and just wants to start some shit.

This dude joined the forums just to post this shit, and he's probably going to be gone when it's done!

And you dudes fighting with him are coming off just as insecure and lame as he is...for real!

And coming on the internet to try and bolster yourself as such and such being both nameless and faceless is the weakest shit I've seen in a long time.

It's not funny! This is pitiful!

The MPC is an instrument!

You don't see other musicians fighting over which is better the drums or the bass guitar!

Now whatever your set-up happens to be the most important factor is the person working them, their ideas, their emotons, their creativity. All the gear and software is the brush, the sounds are the paint, and the tape is the canvas for us to express ourselves. That's all they are! What gear you have is not going to make you a better artist...you dig? You might be able to find some better tools to help you with your art, but that's about it.

Some of us are Van Gogh's, some of us struggle just to paint a halfass decent picture!

Bottom-line is this...who gives a ****! Use whatever you got to make your art and that works for you, and don't worry about what someone else has or which tool is better....just keep it moving!

By the way....we're all a bunch of TOOLS for getting involved in this!

Gayest **** thread in music cyberspace!

Lou-One,
Seriously, we need to make a major distinction here between what you are talking about and what Mwalker is debating. If we look at music as art then you are absolutely correct. Just because you have every oil paint color available to man in you pallette doesn't make you a great painter. It's your skill in translating your talents and tools to your chosen canvas and ability to express your ideas/thoughts to the viewer. That is art.

What Mwalker is debating is music as business; and in that senario he is absolutely correct. Time is money. Why waste hours of your clients' time messing with an antiquated machine like the MPC, when you can fire up the latest new improved version of Reason and put together an adequate beat in minutes with the Redrum module? It makes sense. He mentioned he works in finance, so his mindset is typical of people in that profession.

I personally don't care how much time I spend on music. I'm not in any hurry. I use mostly hardware and my Mac for sample editing. I like it that way. I started with software and switched to hardware. I'm glad I did and I don't intend on switching back.

Mwalker - By the way, I'm 34 and I've learned in my few years that the only way to get respect is to give it first. I won't bring race into this, but I will discriminate based on species... start acting like a human being. Stop insulting everyone's intelligence, I've learned alot from the 17 year olds in this forum. I don't care if you used to suck Herbie Handcock's d!ck, you can always learn something new from the most unlikely sources.

By the way, it's spelled MERRILL LYNCH, not MERRIL LYNCH. I'm sure you wouldn't want them to spell it wrong on your paycheck.

He did use some arguments based on the Business side of things, but this argument/thread was based on quality of production as well. You cannot divorce art from music, and it sure as hell didn't happen in this thread. Especially since now a lot of people want him to show and prove what he can do artistically. It all boils down to art in the end!

Mr. Walker started this argument by claiming someone could not compose a track on an MPC 4000 that is on par with a software made track! That is a strictly artistic point of view!

He argued that you can create and do so much more with software, which is "technically" true. However, a lot of producers/artists find making music on their PC's not very condusive to their creativity, quality, fun, or even speed at which they compose their tracks. For these people a sofware setup even though cheaper, may not be a wise investment.

I don't feel Mr. Walker was totally at fault! A lot of this argument is the result of people who feel that they had to stick up for the MPC instead of just letting this person voice his opinion.

But at the same time when there were a few posts where people kinda said "whatever" and admitted he had a lot of good points, but said basically that they prefer the MPC, he retorted and started to preach to those who didn't want to be preached to and was basically trying to force people to see things his way. Please don't jam your preference down our throats! It's just Gay!

This thread was going fine until some people started taking it personally, and didn't appreciate the angle at which he was coming with.

The thread became really stupid when it turned into a retarded internet brawl.

I thought Walker's first post had a lot of valid points, but I didn't necessarily agree with him. All that stuff may be "cheaper" than a 4000, but they have their positves and negatives. Some people, like myself, would rather buy an MPC 4000 and pay more money than get a software set-up regardless of the money factor or portability, because this is how we prefer to work!

If that floats his boat....good for him I'm glad he found the tools that work best for him...and for the rest of you too I hope you found what works best for you!

If someone has the opinion that the MPC sucks and that whatever else their working with is great....fine! I don't care just as long as dope music is being made and there is more of it to feed my lifelong addiction. Say whatever you want about gear, artists, producers, business, art, whatever! Just do your thang, and keep it moving!

Lou you have alot of valid points in breaking it all down when its done and over with

I don't take words(especially with false information in them) at face value, I ready between the lines, the more lines he started to type the more stuff started to become fishy, and I called him on it or corrected it. I'd do it again, I have indepth experience with a great deal of different things, when he saw me cutting thru his B/S he turned it personal and started running down a bunch of irrevelant things to the thread, like that was suppose to justify him being wrong

I simply asked him to post a track, because after adding up everything between the lines, I knew 9 times out of 10 he wasn't going to post it, which is basically why he's been bullshitting us all along the road, I'm not going to get that childish with someone who is obviously lying about alot of things, and I doubt he has a MPC, hes just trying to stir up trouble in our peaceful enviroment

If he would of posted a good track I would of said ya thats a good track
I'm a young adult, who behaves myself as so, so if you want me to apologize for calling him out cause I detected B/S, I apologize to the MPC-Tutor members, cause Im a man about the whole situation throughout

Screw that, the pc is great but just for sequencing/recording/chopping and the synths. Theres no sound like the one from my good ol fully loaded mpc2000xl. Remember music is made to be heard not for the eyes. All that fancy software that's coming out and being made to replace the hardware is just gona make that good sound disapear.

Most of the young kids startin out making beats overprocess their stuff too much.Like some crazy over-reverbed sounds and isht. Most peeps starting out on the PC think that all these effects are there to be used=thats why they think the mpc is limited. Why should i shake up my drums with 1000s of effects when i can layer and tweak around with the mpc and get it sounding just like i want to?But too many folks sit in front of the mpc for the first time, load up a sound/sample something, and start looking for a 4 band compressor the echos/halls and the crazy azz 20 band EQ to edit their files.

The longer i stayed with making beats , the more i wanted a dry and str8 forward sound.I EQ and compress(mostly on the final mix) too, but i just don't need that much.I like the way my isht sounds when it comes out the MP.So why make drastic changes?

I love the simplicity of recording with a PC....but i can live without the fancy effects, the 17" wave display and so on.

I like the feel of the mp(and the ASRs and so on).
Limitations are there to challenge your creativity.
I put it this way:Each sport has its rules and limitation to the player. So the player has to use his creativity to play as fast, and as nice as he can inside of these limits.Im not saying that everybody must use an mpc now....chose your limits for your self and play ball.Just dont hate on anothermans sport and its limits.
