MPC 60 Floppy Drive Help

What's happening y'all, longtime lurker on these boards, learnt a lot from everyone here (Whatup EDaily, Thes!). I just got a great MPC 60 MK2 ($600 shipped w/OS 3.10, new backlight and floppy and CLEAN) and I've been loving all 27 seconds of it.

Thing is, I've been having some issues with the floppy drive. I've got a stack of unformatted DD floppies that I ordered new, but when I go to format them in the MPC the thing tells me that there is no floppy in the drive. Eventually I'll get the SCSI, but until $300 and a PCD-25 falls my way I've gotta get this floppy situation going.

This has me thinking that there's a cable loose, and that I might have to open up this child and check things out. Any other suggestions? Precautions to take when opening up an MPC?

Have you tried a floppy cleaning disk? Precautions while opening an mkII? Watch and be careful to not lift the top of the machine too far. You can rip the volume or contrast knob wires out from their dials if you are not careful. Opening the mpc is not too hard, but making sure than no ribbon connectors or soldered wires get yanked loose is your main concern.

so the floppy never worked? it could be the jumper settings. if it did work and then stopped working then it could be a loose connection, or at worst, a dead drive.

check the bible thread in this forum for some tips on jumper settings if it's the same model TEAC drive.
