probably a stupid question but..

when i see people going on about a "Direct record" function on the original Akai OS (i think), what are they actually referring to?

forgive me, cos i only really use JJOS 99.99% of the time.

as far as i know there was no such thing on akai os. but jj implemented it its tracks rangin from 57-64 i think. and you go there push overdub and record direct. but it has some drawbacks as track muting dont work there and it has been buggy. maybe you knew all this.

Only the 2500 Akai OS has direct record. Check the manual for details.

V4 JJ OS on the 1000 has Audio Tracks. Similar function, slightly different implementation.

ok, that does help...its on the akaiOS 2500! btw was it buggy like the rest of the akai os? or did it work ok? - hang on, was it the ability to turn JUST ONE MIDI/DRUM TRACK into an AUDIO TRACK?. cheers.


BTW - for anyone not using the audio tracks in jjos, theyre ace. the audio can be recorded into the tracks57-64 (odub+play), they hold a peice of audio and can keep the playposition even when muted/unmuted (like a DAW - unlike a sampler), with sends to the fx, also i noticed that the qlink realtime actions normally reserved for Programs only, can be cheated into affecting the samples in the audiotracks57-64 too.
