How long have you had your mpc... - And how long did it take you to get one?

i got mine two and a half years ago...im still learning to mess with it,i seen it at guitar center for $1650,looked around at a couple stores, then order it from pssl.com in L.A. california and i paid $1650 and that was shipping and handling and i got a 10 pack of drum kits with it for free...[/color]

I've had my MPC for about a month now and I love it.
I've wanted one ever since I first heard of it but the $!
I knew it was hot but I just couldnt bring myself to spend damn near two grand.
I shouldnt have been so cheap.
The MPC would have saved me mad studio hours and we all know how expensive the studio is.
Well , also , no one I knew had one and I didnt have the slighest idea of how to use it.
Now , I've got it.
I still am no where near an expert , but , I can use it.
I have my manuals and I've got you guys.
Plus , I'd already been making beats for years , even though my 2000xl still isnt midi connected because I cant get that damn PlanetPhatt hooked up right.
Still , I've made beats and I like them.
I'm just gonna keep learing.
Oh , and with that said , does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive keyboard with nice drum sounds? I was told about an old roland but I dont remember which one.
Someone told me Premier used it.

there are ten different kits from r&b to hip hop from drum&bass to house and techno theres a 808 kit and 909 kit

got mine for a couple weeks ago and it took me about 2 months to get one (mpc 2000xl)
with it i got a external harddrive, external zip drive, external cd rom...and all for the handy price: 1000$

i took me 2 days te get em...i wanted him so bad i jacked my trust fund thingy (heritage) no i am broke as ****. But got me a nice studio. I work more then 40 hours a week and i am only 17 years old.

have it now for about 6 months and love it! when my house is on fire the mpc is the first thing ill take with me

I have had my MPC2000XL about two weeks.
It took me about a month to sell my digital video camera that always sat around gathering dust (which my grandad bought me)
Now my MPC sits there gathering dust...
I didn't work hard for it.

I got my MPC-2000XL after reading an article in Tha Sauce where it was talking about DJ Quik using his "beat machine" called an MPC-2000xl made by Akai. I was like.... "What the hell is that thing? I need to check one of those out." So i went to an online music store (Zzounds.com) and read about the features, and also looked on Akai's website. Thats when i made the decision to buy one. And after about 3 months of working hard and saving money, I got my dream machine, and began to work with it. I still dont know my ass from a hole in the ground on it, but im striving everyday to learn as much about it as possible.

sold my asr 10, a damn kidney, and a pack of gum... damn you akai.. it's been 1300 bucks for like 10 years now!!! lower the damn price... how can you charge 1300 for something that can't even change keys (non linearly)!! why have you gotten me so hooked on a machine that looks and runs like a calculator from the 70s.. still if i had to choose between my girfriend and an MP, the **** will be out on the street before she could say C

Ah I remember ditching the computer system (trax with an alesis qs6) and buying a roland xp50. Even though I made a ton of tracks with it (and still do in a way) the user interface was horrible. I think I copped a 2000 in a couple of months saving via Sweetwater and another month bought the upgrades (except the flash rom but I should get one).

The mpc series are so straightforward when trying to make a hip hop track. I love the tape recorder style recording. (How did you know I use to sequence with two tape decks in 95).

An underrated feature is the bar forward, bar back buttons, playstart, and play buttons. These buttons offer some pretty intuitive manuevering.

Ive had mine for about a year and a half now.

I was gonna buy an asr10 as they were cheaper but was warned off of getting one buy si from the creators.

I found a box of library records for not a lot of cash and sold the lot to simon for 500 quid and then used that with some redundency cash to buy a second hand mint cond. MPC from loot.

si then set me up and showed me how to sample and use the thing - nice guy!
