The second part's easy: you need to insert the correct Program Change at the start of the sequence, to change the PSR's patch. If this PSR is like others I've seen, Piano is Sound 1, the default when you turn it on.
When you say the notes are "off", do you mean they play back at the wrong pitch? Examine the Sequence in Step Edit and check that the notes are what you expect. The Sequence lists Pads, and the Pad / MIDI mappings are not in order. If you want the Pads to map to MIDI notes in order, you can change that, the easy way is to get the "Blank-Melodic" PGM from my site (link below), and use it in the Track with the PSR notes.
Also make sure that only the MIDI you want to send to the PSR is going out - that is, only that Track is set to "MIDI" with the right MIDI channel, all other Tracks set to "Drum" with MIDI set to Off. Otherwise you're sending drum beats out and they're being played back as Piano notes. Great if you're Philip Glass, not much use for anything else... 8)
