mpc crashes when.....

okay i need the vets help on this one i'll admit i think i know the mpc very well but..... i just got a 1000 off ebay now when a load sounds are chop samples and start recording and playing notes the machine just crashes the screen blinks out and the machine reboots itself . then i'm s*** out of luck because i hot beat that i have started to work on is gone. And its not something that happens a few times it does this ever time a rec a sequence the machine works fine when scrolling through the menus and etc..... it only does it when playing multiple pads. JUST CRASHES i have is this a jj os bug or do i have a serious problem please help.

So what version JJOS are you running, or I should clarify, what OS version are you running?

I am not a veteran by any means, but I am willing to give it a TS shot.

wow questions really do get asked one after the other here. this question was just asked.

re-seat your ram, check to make sure its the right spec ram. make sure you have constant power without brownouts, make sure all connections are secure. beyond that, i dont know what to tell you.

of course update to the latest OS.

check your memory... as in run it without the aftermarket or upgraded memory and see what it does...

i do have a 128 ram in when i take it out it does the same and i have the latest os 4.43 and it did it when i ha the 4.41 as how do i redo the ram or whatever. i don't mean to be a problem just wanna get this resloved because if its i problem with the mpc i have to return it. but have u guys ever heard of the mpc 1000 crashing because of playing and recording pads.

do you know if it does the same thing with the Akai 2.10 OS? When I first got my MPC1K, I did not have any reboot/crash problems.

now, I am on JJOS 4.43. Just upgraded it, but have not stress tested it yet.

the same exact thing happened to me!!!

it was after i opened up my mpc to replace a pad.
turns out i had screwed the whole pad bank down a LITTLE too tight, which
actually leaves a screw a little too close to another part of the inside. so then when i would play the pads sometimes the screw would touch
something on the inside, and all of a sudden the mpc would short out. the whole screen would go blank and then would eventually reboot. at the time i didn't know what was the cause of this, and this happened a bunch of times until finally my mpc would boot up and a bunch of buttons didn't work. something on the inside finally got fried and my mpc stayed like this permanently.....


if you can still turn on your mpc and its working you are still in good shape.
you can just open up the mpc and then slighty loosen the screws on the whole pad bank assembly (the screw that caused this nightmare for me was in the upper right corner). this should take care of your problem....


or since you just bought it return it!

you know, if it is new return it and get a new one. no sense in trying to troubleshoot it.

i talked to this guy on the phone yesterday.

he bought it off ebay and someone dicked him for it - in his pad number 7, instead of pressure transducing rubber, someone replaced it with goddamn tin foil

however what punchdrunk said is right too - the screws may be causing a short. answer - take out your pad frame (dont need to take off all the pads) and tape over te 4 screws that are on the body of your mpc UNDER the pad frame. this prevents anythin from touching the screws.
