Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

What's the deal my MPC peoples? I haven't posted in a long time - it's great to see the forum has grown.

Small talk aside...

Does anyone know if the note duration value ("D:") in the step edit screen has any relation to absolute time or tempo?

Example - you have a basesound ("overlap: note off") at 001:01:01 that you want to drag out precisely to 001:08:95. (T/sig 8/4 Loop: on. 1 bar). I'm asking because events of the same pad in "note off" mode will cancel out if the prior event's duration is too high.

Any insight? I hope the question is clear.

the duration stands for ticks(ppqn), so if you want to sustain a sample for, lets say, a quarter note, set it for 96.

"1/4 note = 96ppqn"

Can't believe I overlooked ppqn on that. Feel like smacking my head on the wall for all the time wasted on "trial and error".

Good lookin' BBoy.

What does the abr. for ppqn mean? I know what you mean but someone elaborate.

Points per quantization.

If you go into the step edit screen after turning quantize off you can scroll for every "ppqn" or "tick" with the Step keys. (Easier to just "do and see" to understand the concept).

And what is a pulse? a 32 note?

By elmacaco Tue Mar 30, 2004 5:39 am
nope. a pulse is an electrical signal, 96 of them equal a quarter note, so the faster your sequence, the closer together in time they are.

yo binger, were you the one with the 2000 memory, I got a customr for your boy, pm me.
