Hi

Still getting into the MPC1000 (just had it for a month). I have a wish to use this MPC connected to a remote keyboard now and then playing a sampled Hammond B3.

I have got some wave samples a 3-4 seconds each of C1,G1.C2,G2,....,C5,G5.

I need keymapping so I get the D1,E1 and so on in order to play it as supposed.

How can I do this in a simplest way just on the MPC? Or due to workflow, should I do this in some wave editor instead, and then import C1,D1,E1,....G5,A5,H5 to the MPS?

Since these samples are based on vibrato etc I am a bit concerned that there might be problems playing f ex a chord - i.e. timestretch/pitch issues which I yet have to know enough about.

I run JJ 4.44B, have a PC with Live 5.2 Basically I want to spend if possible most of tweaking on the MPC1k.

Trying out a few C3s I get a very noisy white noise when pitching up 2 step to a D3. There are several algorithms to choose from, and I have tried a few. Any suggestions? Just trying the same in Live5.2 does not give this result.

Anyone tried the Motu mach five sampler - it states a lot of import options including the mpc. but what about export back to the mpc??

connect your midi keyboard into your mpc
make a chromatic mpc program
load the b3 samples into it
map them correctly (on c1, the c1 sample, on c2, the c1 sample +1, ...)
start playing

or trigger a organ plugin in live
via the midi keyboard.

not sure if there is an easier method, but I did this myself by going to MODE+11, then hitting F3(I think), and then setting up the notes from there. It's kinda tedious, but you do it once, you save the pgm, and hey, you've got yourself a setup!

Also, a suggestion for ya, might not be your style but would still be cool to try. If you're gonna be triggering samples in the MPC from a MIDI keyboard, setup the pad SIMULT to trigger the other notes to make chords when you hit a single note/key. Would be pretty cool ;) (I really want JJ to implement this feature with MIDI so I could do the same thing w/external synths and not just internal samples)

Thanks. I will try this out. Maybe I should just sample an organ vst (got Charlie and B4 II) to get all the notes. Yes - I know - just play the VSTs - but I am not gigging with a PC.

Anyway, thanks so far. Sometimes I miss my Z8 - would be a laugh using that one in these matters.

global program editor is good for that. however there is no keygroup function for the mpc. i just go through the motions of makign the program - and i just downpitch/uppitch instead of using pitch shift (which i actually never use)

Actually, I want to reiterate this. This is a better place to go to manually assign MIDI notes than the suggestion in my previous post, you can get to higher/lower note values on this screen than MODE+11(not exactly sure why)...

whoa, really? you can go lower than 35 now? if so that's great news.

Actually, I might have been a bit quick to say that it could go lower...sorry about that

I do know it can go higher, though!

edit: what the **** did I put in my original edit?!? I *do* know it will go higher, I *don't* know that it will go lower. I don't think it will do 0-127, though(I'm gonna check that when I get home)

when did that happen? didn't it used to be 35-90 something?

that's great news, esp for work with reason, getting those lower notes

hey bom,
I sometimes use pitch shift in the mpc, but you also need to add a bit of filter afterwards to iron out any annoying freqs, if your organ part is in a mix then you should be ok

Done quite some testing now. The best option seems to be the chromatic option. If I load some sample into C1 and then does the auto option, things sounds quite ok from the keyboard.

But - best result if sample of B3 is without leslie going (i.e sampled with leslie stopped). Very bad results if sample is based upon a B3 running fast leslie. It's like a psyko transistor organ with faster leslie the higher pitch. Funny but you don't play like a rolling stone on that kind of preset (yes I know - getting old).

But 2 - the internal effect flying pan does quite a good job of simulating the leslie, and since it can be synced to the overall tempo, there is a wish for me to be able to control speed in a faster way that the jog wheel. Could this be something JJ could attach to a Q1 slider or maybe a footcontrol with some portamento (we don't like instant change slow to fast to slow).

Sorry but I have had the big Hammonds, and miss the sound. The MPC could do the trick quite well as is, but since the leslie change is a big part of the B3, the MPC 1k as I find it needs some more options. Or a Rotosphere - that would be great. A tube in it as well. :D
