MPC help!might be broken

I just got an MPC 2000 xl and i wanted to know if the buttons have to be unlocked or sumthing the f1 f2 f3 f4 f5 f6 they dnt respond even when theres nuthin on the DISC is it normal?

the main screen shows everything is on, but the problem is that the buttons dnt interact im knew to this.AND my question is even when theres a disc inside with samples can u still go in edit mute etc i mean when i press the buttons is there sopose to be sumthing moving?

It could be a bad ribbon cable on the inside.
