Any truth about a new MPC at the Messe show?

I read here not too long ago that Akai would be dropping a successor to the MPC4k at the Messe show later this month...can anyone confirm if this is for real?

I sold my MPC4k last year due to financial reasons but now I'm itching to get back in the game. I saw that new MV8800 and it does nothing for me so I'm willing to hold out for a new MPC if indeed one is in the works. Some other gear I got my eyes on are the Yamaha Motif XS and the Kurzweil PC3.

Personally i would stay clear from any new flagships from Akai (Numark). To put it simple, it would be an expensive bit of junk.

I own 3 mpcs including my lovely 4000, which i had a love / hate relationship with. Since OS 1.71 things have been great for daily use, no issues, etc for over 3 years now.

There seems to be a trend with Akai products lately, and the newer they get, they are built even cheaper, although they get the sleek looks (hmm, Numark gear comes to mind) The chances of thing failing is alot higher with the new stuff than ever before, take that into consideration.

look at the situation with the OS with 2500 users (inc myself), folks are paying like $30 for a better OS, when Akai should be including it free of charge...WTF.

My best advise to you, grab a used 4000 or a new 2500 - you know the 4000, it's the business

The new MPCs are built cheaper because they are cheaper. I don't believe Akai cut corners when they designed the hardware of the MPC 4000. And the MPC 2500 is as solid (or better) than the MPC 2000XL. If Akai built MPCs like MPC 3000s again, not many here in this forum would be able to afford them.

As far as the MPC 2500s OS...Akai owes you for what you paid for and not more additional features (which was never promised). While I don't like the idea of paying for an OS, many companies charge for OS upgrades.

Now I don't know if Akai will release an MPC this month....but if they do, I will be among the first to buy one.

last time I heard akai was going to release black 4k...not sure what that means but I aint seeing black 4ks either

Musikmesse has been and gone and all we got was the new MPK49...

...keyboard/faux MPC/control surface-thing. Big deal. The 4k is looking long in the tooth now and a decent replacement flagship MPC is long overdue. Akai needs to get it's act together on this issue or Roland's MV8800 and soft solutions like Ableton will kill the MPC stone dead.

And that will be a sad, sad day, IMHO.
