Can anyone offer assistance on finding polarity of a device?

I have a Numark Dm950 dj mixer... but i dont' have the ac adaptor I been tryin to buy a universal one but everybody keeps tellin me i need to know the polarity of it 1st or i'll fry it...

I dun looked up the back of the device and the manual and dont' say nothing on it.. I don't know what else to do.. i do know its 12volts but I can't afford to kill the mixer..

anyone got any ideas? Numark is playin the you have to get our ac adaptor when i callled/emailed them, its like $30 man seein as how i coudl only afford to pay $0.00 for the mixer when i got it.. i can't shell out that kinda of cash flow...

if you have a Digital Multi Meter you can check it that way.

if the voltage shows "-" negative then the polarity is reversed. I hope that makes sense.

For your information, that's not the manual.

There should be a symbol either close to the adaptor jack on the mixer, or in the manual showing the polarity of tip and sleeve of the adaptor plug.

Hi, I have the Numark DXM06 which is similar to yours.
This mixer takes 9 volts AC (note the AC), so the polarity doesn't matter. But it has to have an AC supply, not DC.

Now I don't know your mixer but, .......
Chances are it is the same except that it is 12 volt.

You may have trouble finding a power adaptor that outputs AC as they tend to all be DC.
I think $30.00 is a little expensive for a power adaptor but not excessive so you might be best going with the Numark one as and when you can afford it.





edit: I just checked the Dm950 manual

and it appears to confirm it needs an AC supply.

my bad i meant to post the manual link instead i jus put up the flier for it.. but yeah thats the manual i have that pilchard put up and yeah it says nothing of the polarity and AGAIN most devices put up the polarity right next to the ac plug in but NOT this mixer.. i think numark wants it so you buy they stuff...


I'ma do what hamzter said.. it kinda make sense but i got this dude over here who got an electrical engineer so i'ma have bring in that device and check it out..

Call Newmark and ask 'em - if you get an a-ho on the phone who's not helpful, call back and ask someone else....

There's no way you can check the unit with a multimeter, without having a power supply.
Take my advice,....

(note the AC), so the polarity doesn't matter . But it has to have an AC supply, not DC.

You need an adapter with an AC output.

Electribe ESX/EMX have an external power supply that supplies AC voltage as well. Now what?
