Got my XL in the mail this week and I've been reading this forum religiously; great community here. Can't wait to get more involved.

I've done my research (mostly here) and I've got an MCD on its way to me now. I also hastily ordered a 1GB SD card along with it after doing a little bit of reading. Then on my half day off from work today I spent my time scouring threads with the search engine to find out about the problems people have with the SD cards and suggestions to just use 512mb CF cards as they seem to have no problems (Lampdog).

So I'm wondering, does anyone here have success with the SD cards? All you see posts on are problems, which is understandable. Also, what's the consensus on maximum storage space for anyone who has had success with these cards in v1.20 OS? I saw 2GB in one thread, 1GB seems more likely while 512MB is a definite, at least with a CF (anyone use a larger CF?).

Thanks for any feedback as well as the wealth of info I've already taken from this place thus far.

currently using 512mb cf and never had one issue, when i need more storage space i will buy the exact same cards that i use now. no need to experiment when the forums give you the science

Guess that settles it then. I'll just off the SD and USB reader when I get them and go the CF route.

@RockTheMP: Are you using OS 1.20 for the 1GB card, or does it operate properly under 1.14? And are you getting the full partition and not just 512MB of it?

Sounds good. All I needed to know. Shouldn't have a problem executing this--seems pretty clear cut.

Thanks again fellas.

cool thanks for the info. Just to verify and please someone verify this. I cant use 2gb cards at all on the blue 2000xl. Because they come up when I put it in the machine but it wont load anything.

excuse me my search brought up this thread. i too have the same cf card as you and also a sd 1gb card both format well in the mpc and are fully recognizable as almost the full gig in properties on my pc but my problem lies when i add samples from pc thru card reader, it will stop after so many like i get to 148mb cannot add no more files (get a message that states something of this nature) is it possible a wav is damage but i try different ones and same thing. so i cant narrow it down what is the cause i want to fill the gig up. thanks.

now i just updated my classic mpc 2000xl with the multi card reader
and found out only certin types of cf cards work for certin things. when i got my card reader they gave me a cf card by dane-elec Xs 1gb. it seems to work good i tried a memorex 32 cf had problems would not take any thing from my pc to cf to mpc kept gettin error wrong format then i tried to up grade my os to 1.20 with the memorex shut my mpc down. then i used the dane-elec to upgrade my mpc' the one they gave me worked with out problem. one down then i tryed the pny's cf 512 and 1gb works well easy transfer of files from pc to mpc and so forth. and this is transfering sounds from my mpc floppydisk to cf and zip drive to havent tyed lexar yet but will. Now thats my story.
