16 Bit Samples Won't Load/Play,,wierd things happening, help

I use MPC Pad 187 to make my programs, all usually works fine. I just got a few new samples to try out from a friend . They are 16bit stereo wav one shots. if I make a program with them only one sample will export with the program, and when i put it in the MPC that one sample will be mapped out to where all the other samples of the program should be.

So MPC Pad 187 aside, I tried just loading a bunch of samples direct into the MPC, say I grabbed 10 different bass drum samples from a folder and put them in the MPC's flash card. when I go to load them I see the 10 samples, but when I audition them they are all the same sample. wierd shit. does anyone know why this is going down? i really want to use these samples.

got it. the sample file names are longer than 16 characters. the MPC and the MPC PAD 187 can only recognize samples that have file names that are 16 characters or less. this solves the mystery for a lot of non working samples.

to quick fix it, i got freeware software that converts file names on multiple files at once with the click of a button. i did a numeric conversion, like change the title to BD1,BD2,BD3, ETC.

uh yeah... please let us know what program you used to do this. This is one of the things i really like about using ReCycle to create programs... or atleast cut up sounds into smaller pieces, because it names the files in numeric order, ie: when you export the cut sample it names each piece (hotshit for example purposes) hotshit 001.wav, hotshit 002.wav, hotshit 003.wav. I have tons of samples that i would like to rename before creating programs with them. This program you speak of should help me with that.

I'll trade you a full working copy of ReCycle w/ s.n. (mac or pc) for the information/link of your freeware program.

ReCycle allows you to chop samples much like you would using the chop feature in the newer JJ OS's but with more visibility and options. not to mention being able to do this while on a plane to your next big gig... since the mpc doesnt run on batteries, or have a battery pack option.

Yeah I recently uploaded like 3 gigs to the hard drive on my MPC and about half of it is just repeated shit because of the filenames thing and I didn't check on it before hand

I am on a mac but I believe they also have a Windows version.

I gave them 20 bucks for it, but I am sure you can find a freeware on the web. just google "rename mulitple files" or something like that. that wasd how i found the first free on i downloaded and used, but i do not remember the name of it and wiped it from my puter. a lot of companies make these for people to change the name of all their digital photos.
