Is the 2500 what i want?

What up!

Ive been playing records for some years now, and decided Im gonna start making some beats on my own...

I will mainly make hip hop, and need a machine thats easy to use, and it must be able to sample straight from vinyl and from a mic.

Been looking at the MPC 2500, but not sure if this is what Im looking for. Live in a small town in Norway which doesnt have any stores with these products in, so hoping I can get some advise here...

PS! The 2500 is in the upper pricerange of what Im willing to spend, so more expensive equipment are not an option.

PSPS! If I go for the 2500, is it good enough straight out the box or do I need to uprgade it in some way?

You might want to start out on an MPC1000 first. There isn't much difference in the functionality between the 1000 and 2500. The 2500 has more audio and midi ins and outs, which you won't use until you start buying some other gear. You can always upgrade to the 2500 later once you know if you're serious about it, and it'll save you some bucks in the meantime.

No sampler can sample straight from decks or microphone. Both need to be put through a mixer first, but if you're a DJ, then you probably have a mixer already. Just thought I'd point that out.

Just out of interest why do you want to sample from a mic? If you want to do vocals over the top of your beats you'll need a recorder or something like cubase on a computer... If you just want to do vocal phrases then as long as you have enough memory you should be fine

hei, du må utdype litt i beskrivelsen din for jeg skjønner ikke helt hva du prater om.
mpc2500 kommer med 16 mb ram som er utvidbar til 128mb. hvis du går inn på mpc 1000 forumet så vil du se at det står en ram og flashkort anbefalings tråd. les den.

når det kommer til den ta opp mikrofon greia... skal du bare ta opp småting som en vokalfrase eller HELE rapvers o.l? hvis det er det sistnevnte, vil jeg si at det er software greie du leter etter.
når det kommer til mpc'en, så er det sequencer delen som gjør den bra. prøv den og lag en beat med den, så vil du da se om du liker den eller ikke.
et annet godt elternativ er "mackie spike" som er et usb-lydkort som blir levert med en fullverson av en musikkreasjons software, mackie tracktion 2. dette koster ca. 3000 og skal visst ha dritgod lyd og mange muligheter.
jeg ville anbefalt deg det hvertfall. da kunne du brukt de kronene du sparer på kontrollere og div. ish.

it IS good enough straight out of the box, unless you want more sample time then you'll need the extra RAM, personally id say make sure you get it, but it is possible to work around it. Also stuff like a midi/audio interface may be useful.

About the mic-question, it's not critical, just thought It'd be fun... But i guess I could use Reason for that.

Would have bought the MPC1000 if it wasn't for the pad-problems, but I don't wanna be bothered with faulty equipment.

Is there anything negativ about the 2500, bugs etc.?

PS! Do I really need monitor-speakers or will my stereo work fine?

Actually, hate to dampen your spirit but in reason you won't be able to record complete vocal takes either, you'll need a proper audio recorder for that such as cubase or a similar program. However, there are free ones floating around the internet such as a special version of Muzys, I think... Maybe someone else can put up a link or something...
