Learning Curves / Merits of the OS's

Hey guys, first post here. I just got my MPC1000 yesterday.

I know I can find out about the specific features of each version of the OS by looking at the specific manuals or earlier posts here, so I have a more general question. I'm just starting to learn the official 2.0 OS, and I wanted to know how much the JJ OS's are connected to the official ones. More specifically, will I have to relearn features and change the way I work if I learn 2.0 and switch later? Is it worth it, as a total newbie to switch to the newest (paid) JJ OS now?

My understanding of the improved features of JJ OS stuff is rudimentary at this point - all I'm going on is the "this shit is awesome!" stuff I see everybody saying. That alone would be enough to make me switch, but in browsing the JJ OS manuals, I saw that basic concepts aren't really addressed. Which brings me to: what's a reasonable way to go about learning all of the features possible, starting from the very beginning? Thanks for the help.

Dont worry man, all of the features are additional to the. The main and qlink screen have changed, should be no problem either. The only things to care about are:
-Tap tempo is turned off by default, set it with mode+pad10+f2 (tap average)
-recordable track mutes: They got in my way when i was starting with the JJ, from main screen press f5+window to turn this feature off/on

jump in with the jj os. there are a few things that differ from the akai os so sometimes the manual will be confusing, but the new os has some features that are way easier to use. like step editing seems totally pointless now that grid edit is there. not to mention the simple stuff, like file organizing, using usb, etc...all makes much more sense with the jj os.

If I was starting fresh, I would definetly start with JJ's os.

Just check JJ's site or Stan's manual if you get stuck on some of the new features. Like mentioned above most of the stuff in the original manual regarding the operation of the mpc 1k hasn't changed. And the stuff that has changed is pretty self explanitory. But JJ's OS is way faster and better to work with. Best $30 bucks I've spent on my studio.

tha's right, when you buy the JJOS you purchase additional features.

It's a great addition and well worth the $30.

I only spent one or two weeks tops with Akai's OS.

i got it about an hour ago and cant believe it took me sooooo long...... damn, so many things i wanted to do before or had a problem with. definitely suggest it. still trying to figure out gridedit workflow...

Welcome aboard... I can't believe I took a couple of weeks before buying mine...

Thanks, guys. I've been convinced and I downloaded and installed...now I'm just working through the manuals. I still haven't got an email back with the password (it's only been a day, so that's understandable), but I don't understand exactly how it works...all you have to give is your paypal account name and email address (and obviously product ID) and they email it to you? How do you actually get charged, or where does the charge appear? On Paypal and then if you pay the bill they email?
