So I'm working on a track and I'm messing with the tuning in Step Edit, then I get a ***SYSTEM ERROR!*** message and my 1k JJOS 4.4 freezes, I've NEVER lost a beat before. I'm heated; I think I've lost respect for it now. I can't justify having all these extra features, if I cant save what I make.

I dont want to spend a fews hours re-doing it and have it happen again.

Any help?

analyse what steps you were doing, try to reproduce the system error, and report it so it can get fixed in the next update.

well, it's better than NOT having all the extras and STILL not being able to save what you make...and continuously worrying if the DIRECTORY ERROR/NEW FOLDER/WRONG FILE bugs will leave you with a corrupted hard drive

i lost 20 beats when the AKAI OS corrupted my CF card. How do you think i felt? That was the last straw and i bought the JJ OS a few weeks later.

Losing beats is always a risk when using the 1k.

maybe you didnt format the hard drive when you "crossed over"...

just backup your hard drive on your pc

if you didnt, please do so to eliminate all future error messages.

sorry about your loss.

trust me akai os 2.10 has f'd me over so many times.

it'll b iight.

cya your beats.... save a project folder after you set up your programs and sheiit! after that if you make any mods to your sequences... just save the seq and songs in the folder

i can't see how it could have anything to do with formatting the CF or HD really.

anyway, that's a nasty bug, so report it to JJ and he will surely fix it if you provide him with enough informations. :)

the benefit of the loss is to remember to save the works earlier
next time......

I usually do save early and often as soon as I get something going that is worth saving. But I was just testing out the new OS after buying it and I just got going learning all the new additions and came up with a track I was gonna give to a friend to use; and while I was tuning my kick in Step Edit I got that message and my MP locked up.

I usually save everything I make on Compact Flash cards and have NEVER had a problem with the Akai OS 2.1 or JJ OS 3.06. I liked 3.06 so much I wanted to contribute my $30 by saying thanks and getting a few more things. But I still haven't touched my MP since that day, I just don't trust it anymore. I just went back to doing beats with Sonar & FL Studio because that combo has never let me down. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the workflow on the 1k, I just thought it was invincible.

Hasn't happened to me, sorry.

This line just scares me.

losing beats is always a risk no matter what the platform. sht happens.

since i installed the jj os i haven't lost a single beat. it's frozen twice since last summer, both on earlier version os's. the last time it froze, i think i was in step edit (don't really remember, i was stoned - i know that much). since then, nothing.

far better than having to worry about new folders freezing the machine, or saving over data causing DIRECTORY ERROR messages, which would eventually culminate with corrupted files...

go back to the mpc1000 and try to reproduce it. if you can't, make some beats and save often. same with the PC. i used to use acid pro exclusively to make beats, and that sht would freeze every 15-30 minutes, no joke...the only platforms i've ever used that have given me the least problems have been Reason (never freezes) and the jj series...

Yea I've lost beats before and I'm sure it'll happen again, unfortunately. When I was using just my computer, my beat source files became corrupted. When I was using Akai's OS 2.1 it corrupted my .PGM files. I wouldn't get too cross about it, but I understand if this is the first time you ever lost anything.

do you remember what you were doing just before adjusting the tuning in step edit ?
that could be a clue to reproduce the bug...
