No thanks, that's what I thought u meant. Let me detail my objection though:

my understanding is that to determine the pitch of an internal sample, the mpc looks only at two pieces of information: the pad # that is triggered, and the tuning+/- of the sample. It does not refer to 'note number' until its time to send something out the midi port.
Thus, if you adjust 'note number' it will only affect what comes out the midi port.

For instance, if I go to a chromatic/internal/sampled program (say 'm-bass' that is playing, and change a midi note numbers on the midi->note screen... nothing happens. Because the same Pad is still being played with the same Tuning settings. See what I mean? 'note#' comes after the fact.

ahh i see what you're saying now. i thought that the note number was integral, as when you input a midi note with, say, a keyboard, a pad that's assigned to that note numbe is played. i guess i assumed that the sequencer records the midi note number rather than the pad number.

cool. well i fully admit i dont actually know, just speculating... my example seems to suggest one thing, while the fact that incoming midi is able to 'find' and trigger the right pad via note number suggests another.

but in the end it sounds like from a functional perspective we want the same thing.

as long as it was worded correctly to JJ, he/they could probably figure out the best way to implement it.

hey u giys ever see on the jj site some info on the nature of the mpc/midi nn/pad assignment? i cant remember exactly what was written, and i think the page has been updated......but it was hinting at a new approach. this could augment or even replace the system at the mo..... i'll go look for the quote.

I think it would be great to have a pad transpose shift function

assign the pads a transpose scale

then press and descend or ascend midi in key
