Whats a good preamp to cop?

whats a good preamp under $300?

The DMP3 or DMP2 and/or the Studio Projects TB-1(?)
Studio Projects has only one mic preamp.

If you want process vocal and line u could cop an ART TPS préamp, its features preset for instruments (drumz,synths...), dbx386 stereo préamp (without preset); for vocal only, dbx 376 (compressor,déesser,eq),StudioProjects VTB-1 (not TB-1, dat is a mic...) line & vocal...
Some features a S/PDIF I/O or optical I/O, i.e. ART préamp...

it's a little over budget but maybe a rnp? Two channels of mic pres, also DI which should be good for running synths through. Haven't heard it though - same company that makes the rnc compressor - noted for price/performance ratio.

Jonatkiff. Is on the money if that's the kind of money you're talking about. I just tried to respond with something in that price range. Those two units that I mentioned are pretty damn good for the price. I would also suggest just getting the smallest and cheapest Mackie mixer you can. It will be as good or probably better than anything you can get in a preamp for that price. Plus you get the extra inputs.

If you got a Mackie already, then you can use that money for something else.

def check out the behringer 2200 tube preamp. it's only $99 and sounds exquisite. it's 2 channels and has phantom power to run the condenser. i got one and use it on vox, guitars, and overheads for drums. the tube gives it a real nice warmth. 1 got one and am planning on getting at least one more, for the price it can't be beat.
btw, behringer equpment is the ish, almost all my rack ish is behringer and i got 2 behringerr mixers, never had a problem and they are always suprisingly good for the price.

I've heard a million people say Behringer mixers suck ass, but as I haven't used one I don't know. I do have a DI from them and it is not terrible, even though the design sucks and I can definitely see the thing breaking. So many people post about how their Behringer stuff broke after a year. I'm saying if you really can't spend over $300.00 then go with the Mackie like homershines said. BUT - be careful on ebay on that one, cause there is a 12 channel VLZ AND and 12 channel VLZ PRO -the PRO is the one you want, it has better preamps with more gain. At least half of these fools on ebay advertise their VLZ like its a VLZ PRO. It has to say "VLZ PRO" on the front and the back. You can cop these for between $200 and $250. This is your best bet, for under $300 you aren't going to get anything real hot but the Mackie will do the job. If you have the Mackie spend the $ on something else.

Just bought an Aphex 207 2-channel mic-pre for £200 from Turnkey in the UK.
This thing sounds incredible! It has built in valves but unlike the cheap $hit that have valves as a gimic, these add no distortion, only beautiful warmth. Includes Instrument DI on both channels and, best of all, a built in limiter on the input stage so this thing is almost imposible to clip.

A must-have piece of kit, get tha sound you always wanted with no EQing needed.

I hear the RNC is very good in that range. Quite a few I know of really like them. I just got hip to the Prosonus Tube Pre. Some one brought it over for their session and left it here for a while. I tried it and really like this I belive it gose for $100.00.

Yo the warmth is distortion. Just a nice sounding distoriton. I am defintily gonna look into a few. Really wanna goto guitar center and run some ish through em

That aphex one looks like a sweet deal. But in sweden it'll probably cost £500. Bastard distributors.
