OG vinyl..

im tryin to figure out how i can tell if a record is the og copy or wut.....i was never really into it all the years i been diggin but im startin to get into it on certain wax... so i was curious to know if any of the expert diggerz here can help me out with a website or somethin....thanks peeeeeeeeeees

pretty much and other sites will tell you the same an og album is brownish inthe insode and it will look really old you can pretty much tell that it's old by the smell or the cover looks like it has been around for 35yrs or so.

plus there's label that never did or havent been reissued,
another way i can tell is a reissue sometimes the cover art looks blury and not good , and if you get some reissues they say on the cover it a reissue thats why you have to read everything.

and twith the wonders of the internet you can look it up and see if it's been reissued or not.

sometimes records from the 80's had white inner covers so becarefull for that.

aslo look for shitty cut vinyl(meaning rough edges)
warped vinyl(mostly if they use shitty vinyl to repress),
watch the labels too (again read everything ) sometimes you'll get a yellow epic label and then it's on the new label it's blue and the writing is in cursvise i just found a sly and the family stone like this, but i have a reress and the OG.

other then that rest is what ever you can make out is not an OG!!!

yea i pretty much knew all that.... i was kinda tryin to see if there was like a web site where i can track specific records .... like i know the numbers and shlt etched in the dead wax got sumthin to do with the release.... an example would be this: i got a few different beastie boys 'pauls boutique' LP's.... and three are different..... there is one that is a gatefold with a single record, there is one that is a quad gatefold with a single record and the other is a quad gatefold with 2 lps.... all say 1989 and none say reissue.... and i know one is a reissue cuz i bought it sealed at the record store for cheap and i know a record store would not sell a sealed OG pauls boutique for what i paid.....i been tryin to get info so i could try to school myself and get up on the OG record world.....

***i just checked the pauls boutique lp with the single gatefold and one record and i compared it with one i saw on ebay and the one on ebay has 17 tracks and mine only has 15..... hmmmmm

if your in europe and you get a american record with a cut in in the cover thats a sign thats it is a original ...

I have a few records that the upper left corner has been cut off the cover. Is that what you mean?? I was thinkin like some savages used to own the records or something. I mean why the hell would you cut off the corner of the cover..??

It used to be from when larger labels had older stock to get rid of, so that was a sign of surplus stock. Theres a few different marks, the corner cut and the drill hole being most prevelant.

It still goes on today too, I've got a coupla cd's with a saw mark in the outer case but I think this denotes promo (?)

yes thats what I mean... I tell you why this was done.... back in the day there was a ban on parralel import of records... so if you wanted to buy an album in europe you had to buy a european pressing... although this import restriction was limited to new records from the US.... so if the records where damaged...you could export them to europe... thats why they damaged the covers by cutting of a piece off or they punctured the cover...... most of the time if you find a record like that in europe its an (mostly original)american pressing....

i just cant remeber it was so long ago.

Alphawolf i would take your answer tho... sounds logical... but theres tons of those records here in the US why, would there be so many here and not so many in europe?
