2000XL MCD is BROKEN. (VIDEO)

Yo,

Ive had my 2xl mcd for about half a year, and now recently it has started crashing. I make a beat fine for about 30 minutes, and then it displays some weird numbers on the screen and shows DOS ERROR before the whole thing locks up and just starts making really loud noise. its impossible to do anything when its froze, all i can do is restart and then it works fine but crashes after another 30 minutes. I'm not really doing anything special and I'm going slow between menus etc. This is really annoying, ive already lost 3 beats because of this bug.

Its gotten so bad now Ive stopped using my MPC. It will start up, go to the sequencer menu and not do anything. Sometimes it will let me move the cursor 3-4 times before freezing completely, or showing me a bunch of random numbers and letters on the screen.

I tried giving it to a norwegian AKAI repair center, they said they didnt know what was wrong (but i think they were fairly incompetent anyway).

What OS are You using with it?
1.14 or 1.20?
Maybe try to reload the OS, and see what happens.

i have 1.20.. yeah ill try to put the os on it again, didnt think about that - thanks..

How big are the CF cards you're saving too?
I use 512Mb and smaller, and the 1.14 OS and haven't had any problems (Knock on wood).
But try reloading the 1.20 and then see if it still happens.

ok update:

i have days where it works perfectly, and days where it crashes completely all day. for some reason, it shuffles through a bunch of menus, plays a bunch of samples before it locks up completely and makes really loud noise which sounds like lo-fi slowed down versions of the samples i have been using. it usually happens when i turn the clickwheel. reloading the OS didnt work.

suggestions? could i be dealing with a bad RAM or something? My mpc was bought brand new and treated nice..

If you bought it brand new and you have had it for half year, shouldn't it be on a manufacturers warranty ?

Well, it probably is, but i bought it from the US and i live in norway, and i really dont want to send it back and have it sent back to me like 2 months later. i dont have time for that. thanks for the reminder tho;)

Check the RAM, that might be the Problem.
You can pick some up on Ebay for pretty cheap, Good Luck hope it fixes it.

Don't know bout these 2 months, but for me personally the custom charges are the worst thing to concider while shipping something abroad to states and then getting it back... I have dealt with this only once and won't do it again Way too expensive.

For starters, stop raggin' the buttons like you're doing on the vid! That can't be helping matters. Secondly, try some new ram like someone else has suggested.

It was just to show how it doesnt respond to anything.

Hifinal... Just to clarify... when you say you changed the RAM, do you mean you changed it out with "new" RAM? Or just reinserted the same RAM in to different slots?

I took the extra RAM out completely, so I was down to 2MB. I have no idea how to remove the original 2MBs.

Nope you can't remove it.
If you really u have to... there is someone on eBAy selling the 2KXL motherboard that you can swap out.
