muting tracks on mpc2000 classic

is it possible to assign tracks to a certain pad and hit the pads to mute/unmute them? i have my mpc but no manual and a response to this with an explanation of how would be appreciated. love.

highlight the track on/off field and hit open window. it will open the track mute screen. play your sh!t and smack a pad to cut it on/off
