What is so special about the MPC sequencer?

I GOT THE O.G. 2000 TOO, IT HAS MANY CAPABILITIES & IS SO EASY TO USE.

Dr. Dre, Pharrell, Premier, Andre from outkast (but uses Reason sometimes), Timbaland, KanYe West, the list goes on hops... Peep it, any producer bangin out hot ish... most likely they usin an MPC... I know that not all of em are, but for the most part, n!ggaz who are on top of their game bang out with the sweet 16 (pads)...

Well actually, Pharell doesnt use the mpc.
chad hugo actually said he doesn't like its sampler at all.The neptunes sequence on the Korg Keyboards they work on, most of the times on the triton.
Dr. Dre uses the MPC3k and a SP1200(Look at the pic with melman were their at the basement wth 1000s of records).
Premier, the cats from outcast, kanye, the molemen,RZA,madlib, them cats from EC,j-zone, havoc from mobb deep, pete rock,evidence from the dilated peoples,kutmasta kurt and so on and so on,damn i've seen brandy and beyonce on TV havin mpc's home-But like you said almost every producer that uses samples uses an mpc.

I got a classic 2000.
I would buy an mpc anytime again.It's all i need for my isht.Cats talk about how limited it is, when i tell them that its all i use.I think:If you can't make something nice on the MP with 32MB ram and a turtable with some records, you wont make anything nice on any hardware/software out there.

Did knowone mention about the now infamous 'swing' this baby has. It's what made a whole new genre of music "Hip-Hop". The earlier MPC60 and MPC3000 were designed by Roger Linn. Designed for the purpose to replace a drummer which is what he did at the time. The swing on it is like nothing else. It's a custom-built rhythm box!!

It's hard to put it in words. Best explanation is to make a beat on a keyboard sequencer, or reason, then make a beat on the MPC. Then you'll know.

hiphop was being made with dx's, with sp12's and 808's long before the mpcs came into being.

all talk of the swing and so on is a bit of a wank, its just a good simple unit to work on.

Sorry Sketchman, The RZA use ASRX (for pasts WU prod), that's the reason why the beats where so ****up! ASR-X's sequencer sucks, that's not a Chineese secret!!!I'm agree most hip-hop producer use a MP, but not all of dem!Like said D-Samp, any MPC's a good SIMPLE unit to work on, but you could find better samplers den those.

The MPC's a good sequencer, but if you don't want spend loot on a MP, and if you feel nice with your Karma but want "ear" or "feel" the MPCs groove... find an Akai ASQ-10.
Cats still talking 'bout R.Linn work on MPC 60/3000, but you haffi know dat his first work was on dat sequencer. ASQ-10 had a 60.000 notes capacity,up to 99 seq., 99 tracks, SCSI port,2 midi in 4 midi out... it was the sequencer-only,spin off of the MPC60! Akai released it in 1987, one year before the MPC60... So before the MP's is the ASQ-10 !!!

asq 10 is a waste, just cop a 60. Why? It has pads, key element to the groove.

RZA used an ASR 10, not x. he has been rockin some kurzweil shit and the 4000 lately.

Chris said he's fine with his Karma that he use from time...I know 60 has pad, I'm an MPCiste ,the man would like to know what the "magic" so I was just advice him 'bout the sequencer-only of the MP... I wasn't about "cop" an ASQ-10!

there is no special swing with the mpcs...they are all based of ppqn positions that most hardware and software have.....

it could be the tightness of the internal clock which are keeping the beats well on the beat but the swing is not magic or exclusive to the mpcs....

I cant say what it is, but I can hear the difference in note position listening to other peoples tracks. I think its 1/2 timing, 1/2 swing, and 1/2 the way it makes you work: placing notes by ear not by sight, tactile pads, and a display that makes it much easier to play the beat right the first time than edit it afterwards... (if you do the math that equals 1 and 1/2)
I think software based cats get lazy, moving everything around with the mouse and fixing what isnt broken...

oh yeah and the limitations: on the classic mpc you can only load up 128 sounds at a time... software cats have like ten million, and as a result they dont have to choose what sounds they like at the outset...

And you can hear it. The neptunes' beats sound to my ears very "stiff" ans kind robotic (unless its a song where they use a loop). Take "grindin" fer example: simple sixteen step beat.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. Im not hating on the neptunes, im just saying you can tell it aint an mpc.
