Just wondering

How many people here are using their 60 or 3000 as a standalone piece? (main unit)
because i'm on the sp now, and considering trading it in for a 60 or 3000.
Is there an easy way of chopping on the 60 - compared to the s950, because that was a pain. You constantly have to reload the sample from disk - might just be me not using the unit right though lol...

since you weren't a big fan of using the s950 and you're looking for a standalone piece, then get the 3000. because if you wanted the 60, you'd probably get the s950 for basslines and the other filtering abilities its equipped with. you can download the 60 manual in the 60 BIBLE thread, where inside it shows you how you would be chopping up your sample of choice..


just curious, why do you want to get rid of your 1200? i know you havent had it long (im over at sp forums, not stalking you lol), but maybe you might want to keep it a little bit longer after you get more used to it.. and maybe save up money so you can get a 3000 and find use for them together. just a thought

I would like to keep the sp1200, but I have to make a choise some where down the line. I just don't feel like the sp fits me. Dope sounding machine, but very limited - and it takes way to long to chop samples (could be a practise issue though) even though I enjoy chopping on the machine.
It would be nice to have the sp1200 midi'd up to the 3000 for drums, but that's a rather expensive sound module...
Any way, i'm going to keep the sp for at least a couple of months more before deciding if it's for me...

I think what makes the SP so popular besides the sound is being able to use those sliders on there to work with. I haven't used one, but I know that has to be a lot of work to fun work.. you probably heard a lot of people say that the limited ram brings out creativity in them, and it can in you. for now, see what you can do with a drum kit. make various patterns with snares, kicks, and hi-hats. then you have around, or more actually, 7 seconds left to sample with. that can be 7 different weird ass sounds (5 pads left though lol). but take those different sounds, you might want to do the multi pitch for one, and the others will just add to that. i don't know, but i think the more you experiment with it, the more fun it will be

if you want to give the s950 another try, and learn it better, you'll have more sample time in there for funky loops with some crazy drums from the SP.

HELL YEA!!! i was trippin over that too, i was told 2k and 60 are teh cheapest MPCs, then i saw that i was liek WTF.

and look at teh back of the unit, they got screws in there for soem reason..O.o..

they fuked that unit up...

If u want a machine 2 chop up samples, get a newer mpc like 1000 or 2500. u'll pay about the same as u would 4 a 3000 (or less) and have many more options. Headz like the 60 and 3000 4 the sound and ease of use in sequencing but chopping is a pain truth be told. Hope u find the machine that fits u. uno

i use the 60 standalone. Its all good, ive used a 2500, s20,z4 and a 1000, and 60's my favourite by far. Easy to use.

Anyone actually like chopping on it? I reckon its more creative because you cant see the wave form. I only wish there was a "copy 5 times" fuction for chopping drums, thatd be dope.

Check out the Mansell-Labs OS 3.50 for the 3000. Chopping is way easier now.

DarkWing please don't make a mistake with your choice. I went from the MPC2kxl se3 to the MPC4000 and at first after doing it I felt troubled in the studio like dang! I went from 10 beats a week to 3 beats a week. Give yourself time with your choice. Sometime yes we all want but not really needing the new gear it's just a want. Not trying to tell you what to do with your money but I feel as if I shouldn't have sold my MPC2kxl se3 until I know I was comfortable with working on the MPC4000 you know. DarkWing I have flip more equipment than needed because of a want for a certain new option it offered, and that's not always good to flip just for a few new options. Then I find myself having more options and not even using them half the time. No disrespect to the forum but I should have never got rid of my Ensoniq ASR X PRO the red edition, I got more work done on that unit than anything else I've ever owned, not saying it's the best but go what work for you and be comfortable with your choice.

damn i didn't see all the replies - i usually get an email notification...
I went with the 3000. So now I have the 3000, the sp1200, and the ASR-10.
I will try the 2 new units (asr and 3000) before choosing wich one to keep...

I wish the 3000 had the option to extract the temp file to a new file... maybe it can, I just haven't figured out how...

Just make a few blank .1 second samples, then copy your temp and without leaving the edit sound screen, go to one of the blanks, "ins temp -> zone end", set soft start to .1 and delete b4 soft start and there you have it.
