losing the punch when i record to pc

the mixing down thing is called resampling. it's just like creating any other sample but youre using an internal patch to sample the mpc's main outs (and only the main outs, not outputs 1-4)

even with the RAM upgrade u aint gonna get a 3 minute song in there. but if you have a 2 bar loop with a bunch of variations, resample each of those. clear out space by dumping the new samples to your PC and sequence the resampled stuff there.

not that it's really gonna save any of the mpc's punchy sound (as people are describing it here, i think of it as beefy more than punchy but what-fukkin-ever).

While mixing down in the MPC you can use the play, stop and play from start buttons. You can have it set to loop, or not to loop but you can't change this while your mixing down. You do not have access to the mute track function while mixing down so you have to have that part programed in the sequence or song.

I have the memory upgrade and you can have over 10 minutes of stereo audio in your RAM. So even if your song uses 5 minutes of samples (which is unlikely unless your triggering an accapella or something) then you still have room to mix down a 5 minute song.

tiger vomitt- I'm confused as to why you don't thing mixing down internally would preserve the punch or the beefyness. Is it that you think this element is produced by the audio out?

i didnt realize the ram upgrade would get that sampling time. that's pretty cool.

exactly. the mpc's DACs have a certain sound to em. when i play a wav file on my mac (i use a motu 2408 mk2 interface) the sample sounds one way. when i play the exact sample thru the mpc, it sounds another way, that's the punchy or beffy stuff we have been discussing here. IIRC, when i recorded the sample back to the mac thru spdif, the sound was similar to how it was on the mac before going to the mpc.

so that leads me to believe it's either my motu box or the mpc adding coloration. i have several years more experience with the 2408 so im can be pretty sure it's not that, but rather the mpc changing the sound. i almost wish it werent so, but at least in this case it is usually a good color!

i guess there are 2 ways to look at it, i could be pissed that im not getting straight 1's and 0's or i could use the coloration to my advantage. can you guess which option ive been enjoying? although it would be cool to have the spdif sound just like the outputs..

I have a soundblaster Audigy card with the inputs on the front of my PC and When I record from my MPC into onto my computer through the Aux In 2 RCA inputs on the front the beats sound fine. Maybe its just a crappy soundcard issue. I am not sure about the conversion methods the Audigy uses (it says 24 bit D/A but I think it's only for playback) but it seems to work fine.

10 years ago i probably wouldnt have heard a difference either. that's just how my ears were then.
