I remember hearing something about it only being able to write SNDs for the 3000, and the 3.10 OS gives it the same software essentially as the 3000, which would make them compatible. Don't take my word for it though - I'm really not sure.

Take BigTim's word 4 it... mpc editor will only work with OS 3.1. It's def worth the coin 2 upgrade. uno

What didn't work?
There are certain format procedures you have to use for your medium, to allow WinXP to use it.

With properly formatted disk the Editor has worked fine for me for years.
MPC60I/II
MPC3000
MPC2000
MPC2000xl
MPC2500

I could only get it working about 20% of the time with xp and 60 with os 3. I don't mind sampling into my mp anyway, you get super quick after a while!

there IS a big difference in the .snd files between the 60 and the 3000... one is 12 bit and the other is 16 bit, which is which is obvious... when you use MPC EDITOR to create a .pgm with .snd's you can ONLY create 3000 files IIRC... if you have OS version 3.10e installed in your 60 this will enable your 60 to read and load 3000 files! when you load an .snd file that is in the 3000 .snd format into the 60 via a .pgm file that was created with MPC EDITOR, it will take EXTREMELY LONG to load that 3000 format .snd into the 60 compared to the time it takes to load a .snd created on the 60 itself! this extra time it takes to load the sample into RAM is because it must truncate the 16 bit words into 12 bit words, that and the slow processer speed of the 60 make it take significantly longer.... so basicly, YOU NEED MPC EDITOR and OS VERSION 3.10e installed on your 60 to succesfully format zip disks and create .pgm's with .snd's on WINDOWS XP that will succesfully load into the 60... the best way to do this is to have a DESIGNATED "TRANSFER DISK" and use that to save your .pgm/.snd files from MPC EDITOR in XP to it... then use that DESIGNATED "TRANSFER DISK" to load the samples into your MPC60. after the lengthy process of loading those .pgms/.snds into the 60 from your DESIGNATED "TRANSFER DISK" , it is recomended to take a SEPERATE ZIP DISK and save those newly loaded files from the 60 onto this NEW ZIP DISK, so that you can use this SECOND ZIP DISK to store the files AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN PROCESSED INTO THE 60s RAM AS 12 BIT "60 FORMAT" FILES!!! once you save these files onto your SECOND ZIP DISK, you will notice a significantly lesser loading time because they have been saved in the 12 bit format that is native to the MPC60 and the 60 doesnt have to convert the files again from 16 bit to 12 bit!

i hope that explains it...

this info SHOULD be in the 60 FAQ at the top of the page in this forum, i havent checked it out in a while though...
