antonym... why not buy a new one? especially with all the problems people have with the pads i'd think if i bought a used one that the pads might be ready to go, no?
buying used would save you a ton of money, especially if the pads are in bad shape - you can haggle em down mightily for a good price. buying new also doesn't necessarily mean that the pads will be any better or long lasting than otherwise - and if you're gonna have to replace em either way, i'd suggest the cheaper option.
plus, akai doesn't deserve the money for a new mpc1000 until they own up to their mistake
In the uk expect to pay between £350-£450 approx $700-$900 on ebay mine cost me £400 in spotless condition 128ram fitted (kingston or 256mb depending on how u look at it) and JJ inside.
Antonym aint being funny by saying by a screwed one normally u can say to them Its FCUked i'll pay £200 repair bill 100quid = £300 mpc as good as new (everything will fail at some point.
Example ever bought a brand new car. 5 months later you find henry t ford didn't tell you this would go wrong (hey guess what its a moving part NO WARRANTY) you hope for a recall, It don't come.
Or you can buy the secondhand version 2 options someone didn't know the problem cheap fix. Or its been modded already the problem is solved still cheaper than the original that is now known to have this problem
I never by new now unless necessary
Example never buy a used toilet seat (iknow its the cleanest place in the house but........)
MY rant
think of it this way
the mpc1000's buttons/data wheel are VERY EASY AND CHEAP TO FIX
i ordered 100 tact switches from hong kong for 10 usd
the data wheel is 12 usd from vst but i'm gonna look for a higher quality replacement all you need is a little soldering ability
ive never replaced sliders but they don't look hard either.
and not to plug my product, but to upgrade the pads nym style will run about 120-140 usd. for the same quality akai pads, it's 108 usd from vst.
soo
if you can see a 1k that has bad buttons, data wheel, sliders, and or pads
you can reallllly haggle a seller down if you ask him the right questions.
if i can ever snap up a 1k w/ any of the above to fix and sell on ebay refurbed i'd probably make a 300 dollar profit. no slim pickings.
yo soopa... i just got that deal. hit me on pm and i'll let you know how you can get it too.
antonym... i completely believe what you're saying... but i'm not really into fixing stuff. i like making beats and producing songs. that being said if i ever have problems with my pads i just might buy a new set from you if you have satisfied customers. i've seen used mpc's go for the same price on ebay that i just bought a new one for. and on ebay EVERYONE says they hardly ever used theres blah blah blah. you even see people calling their's NEW when they clearly just put it back in the box. i don't trust em if i don't have to. i was looking for a new one not a used one. lemme know how the custom pads work out.
Not sure what DJ deals is doing but they arent allowed per agreement as an Akai dealer to advertise lower than retail price on the MPC1000. Probably dont offer any type of warranty, I guess using a print out of that site and brining it to a place such as Sam Ash or GC would be the best idea.
