About to buy an MPC-60, question though ... ?

About to make the switch from computer software to an MPC, was just wondering if you can use the MPC standalone or do you have to connect it to your PC. Can someone give me some insight to this, coz it's gonna factor in my decision. And is the MPC-60 the best bet for a beginner, that's what my friend told me? Thanks.

The mpc is awesome for making beats, however, the 60 might be limited when making full tracks. If your going with the mpc60 i would recomend that you get a decent soundcard and some recording software for your pc.

If your goal is to use the mpc as a standalone all-in-one studio i would go with the 2000xl or the 2500, the graphical interface of those machines might be easiser if you're a beginner aswell.

Read alot on the net and ask alot of questions and you will find out wich mpc is right for you

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. So what would the benefits be of connecting it to a PC? Mixing and EQ'ing stuff with Cool Edit/Reason I take it? Would I need any extra cables/software? Thanks.
