What is the purpose of this?

are you referring to the option on the GLOBAL PROGRAM EDIT page that works as an alternative to mute? if so, it's carried over from the 2000xl (maybe before but i don't know) and is a way to make pads trigger simultaneously when only one is hit or triggered in a sequence. the big advantage to layering in a program is that the different sounds can have different filters (ie lowpass, hipass, bandpass) from each other.

No, he's talking about the Simult Sequence (the SS field on the main screen) which allows 2 Sequences to be played simultainiously. Although, as I understand this is also a feature which used to exist on older MPCs.

The purpose of it is whatever you make the purpose of it...you might have a few different sequences with just some percussion on them or different melodies on them, using the simult sequence function you can quickly try each one out over a different sequence what has a beat on it and see which one works best. I'm sure other people have also got other clever things they do with it. Personally I've never used it, maybe one day I will or maybe I won't, nice idea though.

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be a great idea "if" you could actually arrange it so both sequences would play in song mode or even if there was a way to convert the simultanious sequences into one.. for instance if one sequence was just drums and another chopped samples this way you could have the whole program with with samples set to mono play to cut each other off instead of only having the option of 4 mute targets and then place the drums on another program over it.. but think thats basically what multis are all about.

Live performance.........

It enables me to have songs saved as individual sequences + programs, and when playing live you can choose your next song by choosing it as the simul seq, and mix it in with the previous song by muting/unmuting tracks on the second sequence while the first one is still playing.........

.....so you can choose the track listing of your set given the way the night is going....

Or at least I hope that's what it'll do.....I'm buying it for this.......

It doesn't work like that.. Simult Seq only lets you play another seq alongside - you cant do any mutes etc on the 2nd sequence. You could always program variations of mutes within the 2nd sequence beforehand, but that kinda defeats the point of what you want- its well worth buying anyway tho :)

Yeah, had a quick play last night and saw that...shame.....

Well, I'll have a play with it and see how it pans out....could still be a goer.....

P.S. When I loaded the o/s it stalled at 98%. I left it for about 30mins then closed my eyes and switched it off and on.....it all looks good....but just wondering if anyone else has seen this?

Cheers

The 98% thing is quite common with os upgrades and is talked about in many threads on this forum, I've never had it so I'm not sure what the solution is but there is one.
