trade in?

i have a 1000, a turntable, and a dj mixer. my concern is i got kinda a cheap mixer (numark dxm 06) should i trade it in and get somthin better like a vestax or rane? or is the dxm quality for just beats?

I think you need to ask yourself what you want to do with it....

if your just playing records to sample stuff any phono preamp or low end dj mixer would do the trick....

NOW...if you want to get down on some serious scratchin etc. then maybe a good needle and higher end mixer would be a better route...

so ask yourself....and you should have your answer!

also if you are looking for what you should get, don't discount the Pioneer DJM, Mackie or Urei mixers...

I personally like the mic pre's on the Mackie and the Pioneer. I had the Rane for about 3 weeks, and sold it quick on eBay and bought a used Mackie D.2 with FireWire installed. I am much happier now..

but my favorite mixer has to be the Pioneer DJM-707. It's no frills, great sound and excellent build makes it my favorite.

this isn't a mixer thread, but i've owned rane TTM56 for like 2 years now. Had a vestax previously.

Frankly, the magnetic fader is the shit. It will never break. However, I had my rane fail on me twice, once something inside burned while doing a live radio broadcast, and another time at home. Not sure if it was a faulty one. Anyways the old vestax is definately more durable in terms of contruction, but the rane kicks ass in terms of having all 3 EQs which are crispy, great for mixing as well, and the fader, oh god, you can crab like a mofo on this thing, and chirp flares are really chirp flares. Basically it does what you want it to do, nothin else, nothin more

Pioneer has all the FX stuff, but the faders don't come close. If you're gonna abuse the crap out of ur mixer because u want to cut, juggle etc... rane is prolly the way to go. Otherwise, keep ur regular mixer to simply play record ur samples onto the mpc1k and u're fine there as well. i do believe however that every setup should start with 2 tables and a mixer and with serato, you can mater mix ur tunes etc... not sure about the rane serato mixer as to me it makes absolutely no sense, since if you travel and play at parties, most likely they have a mixer that's fixed in the console etc.. and hard to set yourself up with a new one, and external serato will do the trick. Now why am i talking about serato ... no clue.

the only thing I dislike about the TTM56 is the feel of the mixer... it does not feel like a well built mixer. I am not saying that it is not a well built mixer, just saying that it does not feel like it.

too light and plastic feeling for me. I do love the fader though, it does feel nice.
