I will buy JJ today if I can get that!

You know you can press Shift whilst using the data wheel right?

In which OS?

On the akai OS that just adjusts my screen's contrast.

It's not faster scrolling but when you press the Window button on the sample name in the trim screen (can't remember if it happens on the program screen too but it happens most place where you can select a sample) you get a list of samples which pop, it's certainly easier to navigate and when you have a lot of samples it can speed finding them up a fair bit.

You should by JJ OS anyway ;)

Can you assign samples to pads from Trim mode?

As you posted in the JJ forum, I assumed you were using the JJ OS.

my number 1 feature request is velocity sensitive scrolling!

having to hit zoom 20 times just so that you can get a start or end point adjusted by a single digit is lame, and so is the shift + cursor keys how the Akai OS did it. i find myself just settling for end points that aren't exactly where i'd like them because i don't want the hassel. i don't know why they didn't implement that like they did with the 2000xl, it was seriously the easiest trimming. you never had to switch screens or even lift your hand from the data wheel. if you spun it slow, it moved a single digit, if you moved it a little faster, it would make larger jumps depending on how fast/smooth you spun.

why is it that in the trim screen all of the pads play the sound in "note off" mode? does anyone else want to be able to tap the pad and have the sound play it's duration rather than having to hold the pad down? you didn't have to hold the pad down in the 2000xl.

in the load/save screens, i'd like to have hitting a pad play what's actually on that pad and NOT audition the sound that's selected. if i want to audition a sound from disk, i'll hit the "play" soft key. i want to be able to compare the sound that i'm about to load to sounds that i already have in my program to make sure they sound good together. that's key when trying to find drums to fit your main sample.

also, they've gotta fix this mute problem. with the akai OS, when i had stop/mute set to immediate, if you mute a track, the notes still get played, it's only the sound that's muted. if you unmute the track, the sound will start playing even if it was muted when the sound should have been triggered. try this yourselves, set mute/stop to immediate and load up just a looped sample in your sequence. play your sequence and during the first loop, hit mute, and then unmute before it gets to the end of the sequence and you'll notice that the sound mutes, and then unmutes. now hit mute in the middle of the sequence, wait for it to loop back around and unmute it after the sample would have been triggered. no sound! you have to wait for the sound to be triggered again to hear it.

what Mike said... And how bout a mode that allows you to choose different sample in trim mode based on hitting pads like in program mode so you can jump around fast, editing based on where the sounds are assigned as opposed to scrolling to the sample that you forgot the name of but know exactly where it is on the pads, you shouldn't have to go to program first... I think you should have the option of having the machine follow the pads to navigate the sounds/parameters you're editing pretty much always... Q-links too most of all! Ya know tap tap, that's the sound I want ot edit > trim and there it is... Did I mention Q-links? Exept those you shouldn't even have to go to the page on once they're set up...

what Mike said too!

Plus.. I find myself constantly fixing a pad's/track's Swing, then listening to it, then going back and changing the Swing value, fixing and listening again, etc, etc.. It would be so much quicker to get to the desired results (and get to results that you didn't plan, through experimentation) if you could use the Q-link sliders on a pad/track to change the Swing and Shift Timing whilst the sequence is playing.

I just ordered my password and can't wait to start some projects.

In the mean time i figured i might as well post some requests while waiting.

On my EMU E5000 sampler i have a filter that's called "Swept eq 1 octave " witch lets you set a frequency and a gain (kinda like a parametric eq without the Q ) I'd like to see that as an option in the filters section and possibly with the Q added . (this way you'd have a 2 band parametric eq on all pads right?)

Also a Fade in and Fade out option in the trim window so you can select a range and a curve for the fade .

I'd like to be able to record qlink parameters for EFFECTS! i'd love to be able to DUB my track or introduce diff elements by varing the effects live, then play em bak!
plus......
RESAMPLE at 8BIT and 4BIT, maybe 12BIT if its possible!

gain control in the edit sample, sometimes i dont wanna normalize that ish

By nc-17 Tue Apr 03, 2007 4:30 pm
i want the auto phrase loop back! and the record from all screens

By christiancastagno Wed Apr 04, 2007 3:44 pm
Realtime swing and shift, definitely! MPC's are all about timing, no? This should be given it's due importance by appearing on the main screen on a per track basis even if it wasn't a q-link...

Not sure if he did this yet but..

1. EDIT EACH SOUND IN "TRIM MODE" by SIMPLY TAPPING THE PAD THAT THE SOUND IS ASSIGNED TO rather then SCROLL through your ENTIRE library in TRIM MODE just reach that other sound. The screen should display the wave of that sound on the pad that you just tapped, so you can trim it real quick. This way if I'm chopping and replaying a loop I can audition what I'm trying to do just by touching the other pads back and forth to hear that other portion of the sample and keep it moving from there, if I need to adjust the front or tail end of a sound I can do it fast without loosing the flow of the music. Having that same sample in all 16 pads is ridiculous because no sound works alone unless its a loop (which I never loop). If you started making beats during the reign of the 2000 or 2000xl you may not miss this function if you never used the 3000 or ASRs before. But if you did, then you know that this is what made chopping out an entire new song from one sample happen! That, and this...

2. While I'm in TRIM MODE.. PLEASE PLEASE allow me to trim my samples with the PITCH/TUNE SHIFTED. The 3000 does this. Trust me, I know from personal experience that many veteran producers ya'll look up to use both these functions to hear different things come out of their samples and make a totally new unrecognizable tracks. You can't hear anything different if you're only allowed to edit in the original pitch.. I can even name a few songs out there that were done that way since I was there when they made them.

3. When I copy a sound, AUTOMATICALLY ALPHABETIZE IT! Bad enough I have to scroll through the entire library in TRIM MODE rather then tap the pad just to reach another sound as it is, AKAI OS makes it farther and harder then it has to be! If I sample a sound "darknight" and make copies: "darknight2, darknight3", if I loaded 175 drum sounds from a CF card before I made that 4th copy of the sample sound "darknight4", in TRIM MODE I have to literally scroll through 179 sounds just to reach "darknight4". By then I forgot what I wanted to do. Even if it was only 3 drum sounds loaded, it still interupts the groove having other sounds in between my samples. How is anybody making dope beats when their work flow is cut like this??

4. When I save a program, MAKE IT LOAD WITH ALL THE SOUNDS STILL ON THE PADS THAT I ASSIGNED THEM TO! It shouldn't have to be considered a "PROJECT FILE" just to get that.

You're supposed to go FORWARD with a new machine not BACKWARDS!! DO NOT tell me that I can work around these issues and give me Q-Link alternatives because I already do and it totally destroys the musical flow. So, if he already fixed these issues then let me know so I can use this JJ OS right away, before I switch back to my 3000. Thanks.
