finally got the 500 delivered and here's my initial take on it:
it's quite a sexy little box.. like an mpc stripped down to it's essence..
because the layout is condensed, it takes a bit to apply any previous knowledge you might have from a tradionally sized mpc, but, you'll find it is a similar machine in concept.
navigation IS going to take a little learning curve to adopt though the traditional mpc concepts are familiar.
all round it feels solid. the weakest components seem to be the wheels: the data and volume are the cheap plastic ones as opposed to what i was used to on the mpc2000classic which felt incredible. these still function fine.
the pads: there are two ways to go about them, at least before they're broken in: hit them a bit hard as stated many times here, or, never lift your fingers and just Press them.
also: must admit i'm not used to looking Down this much- after years of looking straight ahead at a computer screen it's a BIT of an effort to get used to this..
have been on it for less than an hour and must say it feels fantastic to be off the computer for making music. tbc..
