i wondered the same thing, so i sat down with mine when i FINALLY got some free time, and i started to work with it. THEN i downloaded the free JJ OS, and i loved it even more, do yourself a favour and give it a try atleast. it may open you up to a whole new world of possibilities

You haven't even worked out in depth yet whether it works well with your setup or not, you also probably haven't even tried the jj os's to see if it would make a deep and better impact with your setup.
Convince yourself by doing all of that.

I got an mpc from my parents when graduated from high school which was July 2006 and i think it took me 3 months to make real music with it and even these days i am still learning lots of things, making the mpc 1000 more and more irreplaceble for me. the mpc is not only hip hop beats.. if you give it enough time you'll learn how to scratch with it, create serial killing bass programs and total over the top jungle breakbeats... + it looks way cooler then a mac. give it some more time and PRACTISE!!!
