internal samples on hardisk

whats the best way to delete the default samples on your drive?

tried changing all samples to none on "program " then saving all programs to "internal" after purging all unused samples but nothing still after turning in on then off again. all factory samples are still there and they are not coming from my flash drive or autoload folder.

is this a myth or do i just have to buy a new drive?

Could it be you mixed some things up? I think you meant the internal memory, this cant be emptied completly. Just use an empty folder for autoload.

?? If you got a hard drive in your mpc it should be no problem to delete anything from it...

sorry let me try this again.

deleted all programs and samples from flash drive.

no such luck

whats your best suggestion, sets are still coming up after i start up again.

p.83 in the manual. just turn autoload of and dont bother bout the internal memory

only having 16mb im worried

16 mb of ram, whats to be worried about? Internal memory is sth else, in no way related to your ram.


Btw you can get 128 mb pretty cheap, just check the sticky thread on top of this forum.

but doesn 't the standard MPC 1000 come with 16mb of memory?

im getting the "no available memory" error when load samples last night
so were not talking ram here, right?

going to get a toshiba 100gb drive i guess
as i have gig flash card which is getting pretty full.

The Internal Memory is completely separate from the 16MB of RAM. RAM is cleared everytime it loses power, so it wouldn't be very good for saving things on. The internal memory is a flash ROM and has no impact on the 16MB of RAM you have.

Either way, I would still upgrade to 128

i always save on my flash and then my mac.
i guess the prob is when loading samples i don't have enough room because
of the factory samples on the internal drive are taking up space.

frustrating since im playing out and can't load all the samples i need. gah.

thought there might just be away to sqeeze some more space but deleting factory samples from the internal drive.

INTERNAL MEMORY IS SEPARATE FROM RAM.

all the samples programs and sequences etc, when you're working with them, are stored in RAM. if you don't have the 128MB upgrade, then you have the stock 16MB of RAM. separate from this, there is a chip of flash memory called 'Internal memory' this is for long term storage, it does exactly the same thing as a CF card and/or a hard drive. these are not used to sample to, and the fact you are running out of room is that you only have 16MB of RAM.

think of it this way:

the MPC is a desk. the amount of ram is the size of the top of the desk, and the size of CF card/hard drive is the size of the drawers in the desk. to work with stuff, you have to pull it out of the drawers and onto the desk top. as you only have 16MB of RAM, your desktop is very small, and you keep running out of room. deleting files from the internal memory is like burning documents you keep in the small drawer in the desk. to stop running out of room, you need to increase the size of the desk top, or buy the 128MB RAM upgrade.

it's not absolutely vital that you get it, but if you use a lot of long samples, then yes, you'll run out of space real quick. good luck.

funny thing is all my samples are just single hits and if anything organ swells
are under 3secs - all mono . i always chop everything up

should i still be saving my wavs at 44.1Khz?

Did you disable the autoload from internal function?

That's the only format the 1000 accepts. Won't work otherwise.
