XL card reader installation problem via youtube video!

i was gonna type out long and ask questions but i made a video showing my problem.

did you test the flash drive to see if it works without the mpc? if not. hook the reader up to your pc and see if the drive is working.

dont order from armitron or amtron or who ever the **** you'll know when you go to order from there site.....there is no support

damn! thats where i was going to place my order on monday morning ... any other places to get them not on backorder? i need that card reader too cause i dont have a zip drive right now and floppy isnt cuttin it ... im actually sampling drums ect from my roomates 1000 and have to trim one shot samples hahah pretty busty. thanks

I installed the same drive from Amtron last weekend in my XL and was having a problem with it as well. But my issue was slightly different than yours and I don't think my solution will help you out, but thought I'd mention my experience any ways.

I was also getting the 'NO FLOPPY DEVICE' message. My issue was the fact that my IDE ribbon didn't have the tabs on the top of it like the OEM ribbon does that connects to the main board, so it was kind of loose and wasn't locking down tight enough. A lot of ribbons you buy don't have these. I can't tell by your video, but I'd guess your ribbon is securely in place because you swap it out for the zip and it loads up (your zip is IDE, right?).

Still, if you're getting that same message, I'd imagine your drive isn't communicating with the board in some way or it's just not getting power for some reason. Maybe it's the drive itself? Definitely take dgfy's advice and see if it works at all. Even though I was getting that message, I was still getting some action on the lights on the front of it. Except I was using two different cards, a CF and an SD. Sticking the CF in and taking it out would do nothing, but with the SD, the CF light would come on. Not sure why.

Another thing. There's no reason for you to be running 1.2 OS when you're using a 512MB CF. The only reason to run that OS is if you're using a larger card like a 1GB. You should go back down to 1.14. Not that I think that will ultimately solve your problem, but just so you know.

good look...ima downloaded 1.2 from akai...ima find a link on here to get 1.14....and if that dont work tomorrow ima take the drive to get tested.

The 1.2 OS is for communicating with the PC.When you have the 1.2 OS on the mpc and you format the card in the card reader, then the content is viewable on the PC.

Ah, okay. Good to know. I thought that it was just so the MPC could read larger cards without partitioning and such.

Like I said, I don't think it'll solve the issue, but a lot of people claim to have odd behavior with 1.2 and not 1.14.

It looks like the same drive I have, I'm running OS 1.14.
I didn't have any Problems (knock on Wood), so try going back to that and see what's up.

i changed from 1.14 to 1.20 and nothing happened im gettin the drive tested today i'll let yall know whats up

Like I said, I wasn't saying downgrading the OS would solve your problem. I was just throwing the fact out there that you didn't need to be using 1.2. As you've said in many previous posts lamp, no reason to use it unless you're using larger cards, or like harlej posted, you want to format your cards and have the PC read them. You lose SCSI compatability (correct?) and numerous people post about having odd behavior with 1.2 as opposed to 1.14.

It's definitely an issue with the MCD either not working or not communicating with the board for some reason.

I'm using 1.2 with a 1GB CF and a 1GB SD. Haven't had problems with either.

ok if check the previous threads you will the same prob with cards dont use scan disk when i got my 2000xl fitted with the new mcd it came with a dane elec 1gd cf card and it worked perfect no prob tryed other cards like memorex shit would not work and i was using the 1.4 os no prob then i upgraded to the 1.20 still no prob loading bought a dane elec 2.0 still no prob now im using to gig cards no prob and pny tech cards no prob 2.0 and up . dane elec and pny tech work the best for the mcd drive and the pq1 try loding your os from the dane elec cards . they intergrate good with your pc to

Nice thx a lot, i upgraded to the 2500 and i sold my 2000xl to a dear friend. He wants really update to the card reader.
I know ive saved previously all the indication i found in those threads, but im on a new computer without em.
I think hes goin to buy it asap and he wanted to know if he should buy any 'mountin kit' or something to adapt it. Can u just help me on this one please? I will see later on if i can install it correctly for him.
