OK guys I got the scoop. Unfortunately, Akai won't hit us with the MPC x500 anytime soon because they are presenting a MPC/Keyboard-hybrid at the Musikmesse. Its called MPK49 and it's more or less a MPD with 49 weighted keys attached to it.

I didn't like at all how it looked and feeled, the name Akai attached to a keyboard just doesn't seem right

See for yourself tomorrow when they announce the product.

At least this one was a SAMPLER with a keys attached to it; their new baby is just a USB keyboard with some pads...

Akai actually made some good analog synths back in the day that are still in demand on the sceond-hand market for quite a bit of money...











If you see any of these on ebay, you can definitely count on a bidding war happening.

That is no joke. I have been after an AX 60 for a while now and those end up selling quite high. Same for the VX600. AKAI made some great, fat sounding synths.

I got an AX73 from craigslist, and it's a beast. Was originally looking for a VA like a microkorg or micron, but ended up getting an AX73 for less. Nice big keyboard, midi in/out/thru 99 user patches, and all analogue.
Could use some knobs for tweaking, but it's not too diffucult to program, and it sounds nice!

the VX90 was sooo cool at his time, along with the S900 and his weird voice port !

Yeah, I've had my eye on the AX 60 for a while now too. Given how seldom they come up for sale, the prices are definitely too high. People on ebay swarm around them like vultures. I'd rather find one locally to test it out in order to be safe, since I'm sure replacement parts and components are impossible to find these days.
