dropping the track tempo...does it affect the samples?

I was hoping someone would know this...its probably a very obvious question but.....if i create a sequence at 120...load all my piano samples at 120...then decide that a tempo of 100 better suits my needs....will my piano samples still be on sync? or will they fall off beat? no, they will fall off beat b/c they stay the same length... I think only the mv8000 can realtime timestretch to fit the tempo.

Unless you are talkin about piano samples that are oneshots or a loop that is chopped up. In that case changing the tempo won't affect them. Sorry if you were talking about loops. I couldn't tell from your question which kind of samples you were talking about.

Yeah, either way the sample length won't change...
the Electrix Repeater makes a very nice partner to the MPC if you don't want to chop up longer loops.
Which reminds me, the Tap Tempo feature on the MPC1000 sucks. I know it's adjustable, but it doesn't work nearly as well as the one on the Repeater.

huh? what's wrong with tap tempo? i think it works great. i tap and it comes up with the right tempo. what else could you want it to do?

Try tappin in double time. So a 90bpm loop would = 180bpm loop. Makes the tap more sensitive. just make a mental note of the tempo andset the bpm back to ex. 90

Lowering the track tempo will have no effect on the samples.

It will have an effect on the sequencing cause you sequenced at 120 and tuned your samples to match. If you change you tempo then your samples will either lag in timing or finish and end before they are supposed to. You will have to match them up again to playback exactly how you want. IE. retune/shorten (decay - timestretch)/lengthen (timestretch)your samples.

The tap tempo works, but the button itself doesn't always trigger properly (and this is my second MPC1000) and the tap averaging doesn't seem to work as well as I'd like. I've tried changing the tap average interval, and even with a steadyish tapping the tempo will oscillate +/- 5 BPM. Sometimes the button likes to double trigger and my sequence will double in tempo.
I dunno, maybe it's just me...is there a way to calibrate the buttons for personal preference? All I know is that a steadyish tapping on my Repeater might change the BPM +/- 1 BPM, which makes me think it tracks and/or averages the taps better.
I'm not trying to bust on the MPC, I love this machine, I have just found that the tap tempo doesn't really let me accurately sync to anything live, it only gets it in the (rather large) ballpark.

the tap tempo in DP is pretty much like that. it averages the taps more slowly. it's not more accurate, it's just more generalized about the tempi it reads. they're both fine with me (DP's method and the mpc's). on the mpc i just keep tapping for another second until i see a tempo that looks good. if i know it's a little slower than i was thinking i just lower the tempo before i start recording.

that sucks about your buttons not working tho, that's not good at all

I saw dude at NAMM turn the tempo down on the MV-8000 and loops AND vocal recorded on the audio track automatically locked in realtime. He didn't have to do nothin. Pure dope!

Or try tapping so a 90 bpm = 45bpm, it lowers the odds of you being off with your tap.
