Ensoniq ASR10

if i saw a asr-x for 99 and it worked ill cop it for fun!

I usually don't bother with these comparisons too much, but since I was sorta called up , I'll lend my p.o.v. The ASR-10 effects are good, ...I mean really good but I have'nt used it much as an all-in-one tool though. To pretty much sum it up, I had other outboard gear that I favored over the ASR. In the begining however, I did make use of it's efx and remember how detailed the various algorithms were and their ability to chain or stack themselves to get a customized sound. These days I don't use it for sampling anymore either, I use it just for instrumentation.

what would be a newer alternative to an asr-10 with a moderate price range?

I'm not really giving this any thought but check out the MPC 2500.

If you're lookin for a keyboard workstation look up the kurzweil K2000 series.

You'll probably want to check for a used one.

im looking for a box with just effects delay, flanger, etc. something that will fit in my current setup which is mixer monitor out into my 1k for sampling so i want something inbetween the mixer and 1k so i can add during recording
so another mpc or workstation is just way to expense

Most people sample on the ASR and sequence on the MPC. Or they might do the melodic/vinyl samples on the ASR and the drums on the MPC, then sequence it all on the MPC. As far as I know, there is nothing you lose as far as the ASR's capabilities by sequencing it externally, because there's nothing extra that its internal sequencer can control.

The ASR 10, X, and X Pro are dope machines. They go well with an MPC because their main weakness is their sequencers, but their main strengths are the MPC's main weaknesses. Sample engine, converters, effects and filters.

There is very little advantage to the X pro over the black X, besides the SCSI is automatically included (but most of the black ones have been upgraded by now) and max RAM is 66MB instead of 34. I never even filled up the 34MB on my black X, so that's not a real big advantage for me. The OS is the same, the bugs are the same, the pads are still wack, and all the editing features are the same.

Except for the X Pro sequencer can do decimal tempos (like 120.1) and the X is whole numbers only. And the Stomper program built into the X Pro.
