s900 to sample, 60II to sequence

The problem was the keygroup situation. I only had one setup, that's why the sample had to be selected to hear it. But, once I made a keygroup for each sample and set the note it would respond to, I could hear each sample when I pressed the corresponding pad.

im a total newbie to the s950...but where is are the keygroups that you are talking about? or note data? i got the wires all hooked up rite to my 950 an 60 im just confused about where to go as far as keygroups and note data...plz help.

heres a tip...

sequential midi note number pad assignments...

this will make using the s900 alot more friendly and easier to create your keygroups...

mpcs have pads assigned to GM (general midi) on default, you really dont want this unless you are actually using a GM .pgm... you want to reassign the midi note numbers to pads so that they are sequential, so you can know which pad is which from memory and create your keygroups alot easier...

EDIT PROGRAM menu, i forget which page... 1 keygroup per sample, set range of each keygroup and original key of sample in EDIT SAMPLE menu... if you assign a keygroup to a range of more than one note, it will tune the pitch up and/or down according to your range of notes... to trigger the sample on only one pad in the original pitch it was sampled in, set the range values to the same midi note number on from and to, and set the original key of the sample as the same midi note number as the pad assignment... setting original pitch is on a different page than setting the keygroup range, it actually might be in EDIT SAMPLE menu and not EDIT PROGRAM menu... its been awhile...

be sure to setup your mpc with sequential midi note number pad assignments as i posted above... having your pads setup like this will make your life a hell of a lot easier...

how would you sample @ 45rpm and pitch down in the s950 then set up the appropriate keygroup?

you would sample in the S950 and not restrict the numbers in the keygroup until you find the right pitch you want, then maybe figure out on average how many you have to go down so you know for next time.
