i got a 1000 and a 2000xl with the 32mb and internal zip...
i find both to be damn near equal, im not all about the features, i mean what it has i'll try my best to work with, heck i was using the 1000 pre 2.1 and never sold it to get my 2000xl, and still now that thiers the "JJ" os i dont even find myself using the features of 2.1 with the exception of the delay effect... i dont use one machine one more then the other, the 1000 does have a slightly different feel, but the workflow is the same. i sample, i chop/extractsamples and then i sequence, its all the extra shit that gets people worked up, i personally, not knocking anyone who does shit different, dont use all those extra features, be honest man, if your really going to be using all them features of the machine break it down, list the features of each machine, people are only going to be objective towards what they would do, but most of the time thats not whats right for you...
i ended up picking the 2000xl up because i invested in a 500, but god did i **** up hahaha, ended up reselling and i got the 2000xl from ebay for $620 or so shipped to hawaii and i had to just clean the body up which took a couple of hours..
just realize at some point in time you'll have to invest in new pads if you end up picking up the 1000,so add about 100-150 to the cost of the 1000 for antonyms pad replacements, not saying that your 2000xl isnt going to be giving you trouble, but its far more uncommon then the 1000, people have their mpc 60s for damn near 20 years and dont have problem with thier 1st generation pads... or friends of mind who have a 10 or so year old mpc 2000 classic and the only prolem they have is thier zip drives and their note variation sliders, but then again thiers the issue of the dying LCD's, i think armen from ebay puts new lcds in his 2000 classics and sells em for under 700 with the max ram...
with the 2000xl the most important thing you could replace would be a card reader, if it has the internal zip, from my understanding you just need to find the right drive and swap it out... its usually under 100..
hope this helps
ps. from what i've seen around here, danm near every single person who has switched from the 1000 to the 2000xl has been extremely pleased with their choice...
